Review: McKees 37 Engine degreaser

Had a water pump let go on my 2000 Grand Prix GT a couple months ago and when it did it sprayed coolant and created a mess under the hood. I got it fixed but neglected to give the bay a thorough cleaning.

Fast forward to this afternoon. I was giving it a maintenance wash and decided after reading Harris300 review I would try out the Mckees 37 engine degreaser.

Here are some before pics.

Following the instructions I sprayed the engine with a little bit of water then began misting down the bay with degreaser. After letting it work in I agitated with various brushes.

One thing I really liked is that even though it's a powerful cleaner it didn't harm the single stage paint in the jambs of the bay. Also it doesn't seem to have a harsh smell.

It cut through the grime and left a clean surface.

After drying I dressed it with some hyper dressing.

Thanks for reading!

Nice review. Did this degreaser stain the black cross braces? I have had that happen with APC and Meguiar's Super degreaser. I usually have to follow up with a polish or cleaner wax to remove the staining.

The good ole' water pump going out on these. Been through a few over the years. The good thing is that it is an easy fix as are the coolant elbows which tend to leak since they are plastic. But I digress.

Seeing your engine bay is forcing me to clean mine this weekend.

I didn't notice any staining with this product. I have experienced the same thing on other cars with more generic APC.

It actually was the trans cooler in the radiator that went bad causing trans fluid to back up into the cooling system causing the water pump failure. Ended replacing a bunch of stuff. When the pump really let go it created a mess in the bay!

All is good now. Get to cleaning that bay!

Thanks, Justin !!

Sounds like a great product and it made your engine compartment look like new again - especially after the Hyper Dressing - the world's Best smelling dressing!! :)
Thanks for all the hard work - just changing out all the parts, and then all this work today for us !

THE BEST engine degreaser i have used! And its SAFE for all underhood components. I have some on its way this last order. I use SONUS MOTOR KOTE after for a perfect engine.

Nice review. It would be interesting to know how this defers from an APC but sounds like it can be used many places where an APC would be used.

In my experiences it seems that most APC while they do work have 2 downfalls. They either produce fumes or they are a bit harsh to the untreated painted jambs in the bay. I have personally had paint rub off areas using a diluted APC.

Didn't experience either with this product which is a nice benefit.
