Review - DP Tire Coating

That's pretty good durability Mike! There's still some shine left even after 2 months.

Yeah the coating is still hanging around. It's not as glossy as it was when I first applied it but it looks pretty good.

That is really impressive. I love the just dressed look and hate how dressings just fade so quickly. Even opti and wet diamond are only good a couple weeks. Looks like this might be the next tire dressing I buy.

It's been very impressive. I think you would be happy with it. It's a good time to get it since Autogeek has it on sale. Have Autopia price match it.

I gave the car a wash today. I'm going to call it at 2 months. I am going to go ahead and refresh it with another coat.

Went ahead and re-coated the tires with another 2 coats of the tire coating.

I used the sidekick to dry the tires and accelerate the curing time between coats.

I did use two rounds of Meguiar's D108 Super Degreaser at 4:1 with a tuff shine tire brush followed by two rounds of the DP Tire Cleaner & Restorer. This way I don't have to go through the DP tire cleaner too fast.

This is what the tire looked liked after it was cleaned

For those that are unaware, the tire coating is now available as part of the McKee's 37 line.

Thanks for the updates. I was really disappointed with DP tire coating, PERL and Gyeon tire, but perhaps it is my Michelin Xi3 tires that are the issue. Any knowledge about Goodyears having the same issue?

When you use Mothers back to black tire renew, are you using the tub shine brush on the tires when you're doing the rinseless?

Michelin tires are some of the toughest tires to dress. It's the tire and not the products. They bloom more than any tire I have dressed. Coatings don't last long on michelin's from personal experience. A regular water based tire gel works much better. My brother had good year tires and they seemed to be ok when I used a different tire coating.

I use a tuf shine tire brush when using Mothers Back to Black Tire Renew. But only when the tires look like they need a fresh application of tire gel. When I have my tires coated, I don't use any sort of tire cleaner. All I do is use rinseless wash solution when I rinseless wash or soap and water when doing a 2 bucket. That is all that is really needed when the tires are coated.

That's a damn shame about michelins since they're my preferred tire. Guess I better just continue with dressings then . Maybe Michelin itself will introduce a coating like it did its own tire cleaning products some years ago.

Another update. I went 2 1/2 months since the last time I used the tire coating. It could have gone 3 months easily. I decided to reapply it. I went with 3 coats on each tire this time instead of the usual 2. I was curious to see how it looked with 3 coats.

Here I have prepped the tire with 2 rounds of Meguiar`s D108 Super Degreaser at 4:1 followed by 2 rounds of DP Tire Cleaner & Restorer

I will see how long 3 coats last compared to two that I have been doing. I didn`t notice too much gloss compared to two. But it was a tad overcast.

I have been happy with this product.

Just tried this on my Michs after using Back to Black tire coating, that had been on for 6 months. Did the same prep that I did for the first application. The day after the application, the Mckees 37 began flaking off in lots of areas. It really looks terrible. Do you think this is the same issue that you had and what can you suggest I do now?

Tough to say. Michellin`s are a little more difficult to dress in general.

Did you use the recommended tire cleaner for the tire coating? If so did you clean until you saw white suds?

Did you allow any time where you had no tire dressing on the tires? My tires were new so I was having issues with the mold wax that was being released by the tires. I ran no tire dressings of any sort for about a month before I reapplied the tire coating. I have not had any issues once I had this initial issue.

How soon did you drive after applying the tire coating? Nick just stated to wait about 4-5 hours prior to driving once applied in the new McKee`s 37 tire coating video.

Nick over at Autogeek provides some great info in these new videos for the McKee`s 37 line.

Guz, not sure where I went wrong, but I`m going to try again on one tire. I got exactly what you got when the coating failed, only in lots of areas. So this time, I`ll give a good brush scrubbing with the tire cleaner restorer and hope that the failed coat is removed...did you actually get you whole coat to remove with the cleaner? Also, when I brushed on the Mckees 37, I did get some foaming...is that an issue? Seems the worst failure was in the ribbed areas. Thanks for the help and for posting this thread.

Sounds like all the old coating isn`t off the tires. I would agree with not putting anything on them for 4-6 weeks. Let the UV rays and elements deteriorate what`s left of the old coating before trying again.

The cleaner would not remove the fresh application of tire coating. I tried other tire cleaners as well and eventually cintacted Nick over on Autogeek. I created a how to removal thread on removing the coating. You could try the recommended tire cleaner to see if it removes the coating.

Here is the thread I created on removing a fresh application

My issues were related to new tires and the mold wax release agent on the new tires. In addition to that I had been using Pinnacle Black Onyx and Blackfire Total Eclipse prior to applying the tire coating. The tires had absorbed the product. The combination of both things created a bonding issue. I have no problems with it now.

Nick goes into a real nice discussion in that video.

I will have to agree with this.
