Restoring a LED 360 anchor light...

My all around LED anchor light was no longer "all around" as the sun had hazed it over like 10 year old Taurus headlights. I could buy a headlight restoration kit, but a wool pad and rotary does it again. At first I thought it was so far gone, I sanded for an hour with 600,1500 and 2500 to no real avail so time to get out the power tools....

fire up the rotary and wool pad - apply Duragloss 561 or heavy compound and and run it upside down like a jewelers wheel -work the light against the pad - haze disappears...

5 years of sun did this - when it came off the boat, you could not see the LEDS - this is after sanding for an hour!

4 min of compounding did this.....ignore dremel - not used

now apply opti-coat 2.0 so it never happens again...

That looks very nice. See you also broke out the Dremel. I've always wanted a 36-42ft Carver. But that is a whole new maintenance, part time job.:)

Great work Glen, do you think you would have achieved those results had you not sanded?

Yes I think so....but maybe it would have taken 8 minutes! The haze and top layer of oxidation came right off with compound, 2000rpm and wool. I have an old dash gauge somewhere that has a "cataract" like this and will try it without the sanding....

It seems the answer for the boat is always

rotary+wool pad+compound=results

Thanks for sharing glen! Looks great.
