would Collinite 845 be a good replacement ?

i'm looking for durability with 'ease of removal'

and i already have the easiest lsp to remove in WG

collinite would be a good competitor with upp. but i dont know why u would replace upop with it. everything about them is about the same except upp being a polymer selant and collinite being a carnuba, durabilty is on par. looks are different but definately on par. and application and removal are the same.

if u have upp, stay with it.

IMO Insulator Wax is much more durable than UPP. It's as easy to apply as UPP but you don't really have to wait to remove like you do with UPP so I find IW easier. IW also isn't picky about what you apply it over so it's compatible with more products. IW is almost as slick as UPP on initial application but retains the slickness much longer than UPP.

I thought carnubas dont last as long as synthetic polymer sealants? Is this insulator wax stuff a special wax that lasts longer?

I agree with Anthony about Collinite vs UPP. For whatever reason, Collinite's waxes wear like iron. Yes, they are supposedly mainly carnuaba, but they outlast quite a few high-end polymer sealants.

Good to know, thanks Don.

Depending on how much faith you put in the GURU REPORTS testing, Collinite Super Doublecoat wax was #1 of all carnuaba waxes and scored higher than more than 75% of synthetic waxes/sealants.

From personal experience, I can tell you the Insulator wax (845) has awesome looks and seems to last forever...I didn't get to baby my car much this summer, but the IW kept it beading like crazy.

Considering that their first series of test was withdrawn because of some questions and the the second test admittedly had some flaws in it, I'm not sure I have any more faith in Guru Reports than any other users experiences.

I used the paste Collinite twice and had more problems removing it than I did with the paste Simonize of 50 years ago. I thought I would have to use a paint cleaner to get it off. The first time, I blamed myself, but when I had the same problem the next time I used it, I gave it away.
It might have been great, but I would not have put it on my vehicle if it took that much effort to use. Too many good, easy to use waxes available.

Don, I'm curious about the other 25%. Which synthetic waxes/sealants outperformed Super Doublecoat?

Zaino was #1 and Klasse was#2 if I remember correctly. These two sealants seem to be considered the durability kings. I haven't use Zaino so I can't comment on it but I have used Klasse SG and I can tell you that Collinite Insulator Wax lasts longer, looks better, and is much easier to use than SG. Collinite 476S Super Double Coat didn't last any longer than Insulator Wax for me and like Charles says is a pain to use. If you use a damp applicator and apply thin coats and do a section at a time it isn't too bad at all though. Since I get the same durability from IW as 476 and IW looks better and is easier to use I prefer to use the IW.

One thing to keep in mind about Collinite Waxes. You get sealant like durability but the compatibility of carnaubas. They work well over almost anything. I use VM, AIO, GEPC, Sonus Paint Work Cleanser and a few other pre wax/sealant cleaners and they all worked well under Collinite.

Thanks Anthony. Looks like its time to get out the wallet again. :w00t:

So, in the spirit of the thread title, which would be more durable (i.e. to get through the winter):

AIO/UPP(x2)
AIO/UPP/845IW
AIO/845IW(x2)

In my experience your last combo is the one I would use for maximum durability.

476S is easy to apply and removal is not hard at all if you use a PC with a finishing pad to apply it and a plush MF for removal. The PC aids in speed and getting a thin even coat, that's why it's easy and very economical too.

And don't let it set up too long. Take it off as soon as it starts hazing.

I've tried 476S and just wasn't happy with the look.

Haven't tried IW though.

As long as you put the insulator on thin, it can sit for quite a while and still come off easily.

Yeah thin coats and not letting it set up too long makes it much easier to use like I said but it's still not nearly as easy to muse as Insulator Wax.
