Renting a PC 7424

The problem wit just renting the PC7424 is that for detailing you'll need backing plate and usually a few different pads ... I doubt Home Depot will rent those.

you may want to post where you're located...

Or just call a Home Depot thats close to you. But the backing plate is going to be an issue depending on what size pads you have.

What is it you're trying to accomplish?

Okay my plan is to rent a PC 7424 if they have one at a place like Lowe's or Home Depot in order to start the process of removing some really noticeable swirl marks on my truck. I want to get everything I need basically at the same time. Anyone know exactly what products would be best to use (and if they can be found at a store or online) with the PC 7424 in order to remove those annoying swirl marks. Products, pads, backing plates etc.

see i know from experience that once you use one you will always want to use one and think its the greatest thing in the world, so my opinion would be to order one of the starter kits from CMA while they have the 10% off and free shipping deal going on. You will never regret your purchase and you cant go wrong on one of the starter packages.

Okay so I'll buy a PC 7424 in order to start the process of removing some really noticeable swirl marks on my truck. I want to get everything I need basically at the same time. I will ask this again.... Does anyone know exactly what products would be best to use (and if they can be found at a store or online) with the PC 7424 in order to remove those annoying swirl marks. Don't be so pejorative, man. There's exactly hundreds of different combinations of pads, products and backing plates which would work for your situation. Have you shared what color your truck is? As mentioned, there are a number of packages available that could be a good deal, a lot of the choice of pad, product, etc. comes down to personal preference. You might also consider a UDM package. I'll leave the recommendations to others.

Seriously. Check out the EDGE pads, quick disconnect system, and double sided pads. I have been really impressed with their products, service, and ability to deliver what their customers are in need of.

Should be it the link I just provided.

I would recommend ...

EDGE Orange pad and white pad.

Menzerna polish SIP orange followed by 106ff orange then white pads.

Note: if the orange pad doesn't do the job try a green pad and SIP.

Follow up with a good sealant.

Messy.

Let me try again.

Wash it with a good auto shampoo. I use Ultima.

Clay it. Clay magic seems popular. I use Adam's, Sonus, or Pinnacle. Use whatever lube.

Wipe it down with a good soft absorbant MF towel.

Polish a section with Menzerna SIP and an orange pad.

Follow up with Menz 106ff and an orange pad.

Did it work?

No then start with green and SIP, then repeat above polishing.

Work? Yes?

Finish with Menz 106ff and a white pad.

By now the quick disconnect system is your buddy. Screw velcro.

Now wash and dry.

Apply sealant. Possibly repeat.

Tada!

If the OP is interested in renting a PC, chances are your polish recommendations are a little bit out of his budget range. Optimum polishes are an ideal compromise between quality & economy.

Well for what products that would work best we'd need to know a few more details about your truck, like what year, make, color because all these factors can change the "combo" per say.... you could even post a few pics of said swirling, then we'd have a better idea of what you're dealing with (Light, medium, moderate, rids)

We'd be glad to help point you in the right direction but as mentioned there are a ton of different pad/product combos out there used for different situations.

Also, I'd recommend doing some reading/watching some "how to" vids on swirl removal, that way when you get all your products together you'll have a plan of attack. You'll be much happier with the results in the long run.

Oh and to answer the other bolded part of your post, you'll be looking online for almost all the products online, here, autogeek, chemical guys, cma, and the list could go on and on...

Basics. 5-6.5" LC CCS pads Orange, white, black, blue with 4 3/4 or 6" backing plate and for starters you could get some opti polish (excellent for the price) and see if you make some progress with those swirls.
