Rental car abuse?

Just recently I read a thread about rental car abuse.
Evidently this is a very common and accepted practice. Drive the heck out of them, jam them into reverse while going down the road at a good speed, generally trying to destroy them.
Is this typical?
I guess I'm too old to see the kick in tearing up any vehicle, rental or otherwise.
Am I in the minority on this? I could hardly believe the number of people that seemed to think it was great fun.

I really haven't seen any other this abuse..they make you sign over your life when you rent a car so I don't see the sense in it either:dunno

I do know different states have different laws about who is responsible for damage to a rental car, and many state have made it so your insurance is actually the primary coverage and the rental company can sell you a waiver for your deductable..I know that CA. , NY, NJ have this not sure about other places
 
That type of thing is why rental cars are expensive and the rental car insurance is so expensive. I think it is a shame to abuse any car like that, especially a car that one does not own. Dont get me wrong, I probably wont wax a rental or anything, but I will try to take care of it as if it was my own.
 
Not that I've ever done it or know anyone who has, I can imagine having some fun with it. I tell you out of all my friends cars' which consisted of impalas, mustangs, eclipses and various SUVs, I think everyone can agree the most fun they have is in my best friend's 88 Toyota Camry. The best part is he drove it the most and beated on it more then anybody else and he had the least amount of problems out of everyone. That really says something about Toyotas. For a good time pile up in a beater :)
 
If anything, it's fun to try out some new products on, every car i've ever rented has had a good wash, clay, polish, and wax. They usually return in better condition than they were rented.
 
What amazes me even more , people actually buy these cars after they 're abused to death as a rental car . :dunno
 
my last explorer was a rental and it was mint and ran great ...we then had twins and realized it was too small, but we really liked it... I guess it also depends on where it was rented from and where it was driven:dunno

Yeah you do have point there. Philly would be one of those places to avoid buying a rental car from . :lmfao :notpossib

May I join you in that minority? :) I believe I read that same thread. Is it me or does that behaviour speak to one's character? Does the Golden Rule apply even loosely? The "others" being the rental car companies?

We rent a vehicle every year to go on vacation. I trust the rental agency to provide me with reliable transportation, and they can trust me to return it in the same condition.

:yeah some get returned even better, i removed scratches from a quarter panel and tail light on my last rental :crazy
 
I removed about a half dozen scratches from a Camry loaner car a couple weeks ago. I usually wind up doing a little detailing on every one of my loaner and rental cars. I think of them as rolling test panels. :D
 
man..... talk about no respect for other's property. thats nasty, i would hate it if someone did that to me. its amazing, a handful a problem can cause a world of hurt for some rental car companies.
