Removing wax

Hello I'm new here and I have a question that I hope will be answered here.

Last summer I made the mistake of waxing my car before claying it and I noticed there was some contaminent trapped between the paint and wax. I tried claying the paint afterward, obviously it didn't worked.

Anyway I did about 5000km with my car last summer and then stored for the winter. My question is should I remove the wax before claying the car, with dawn soap maybe? Or will the wax be gone anyway after 5000km of summer driving.

I used meguiar gold klass wax and the car is red.

The clay should still take the contaminants out, the only difference is your clay will also pick up the wax. I would start over and strip it first.

Yes agree with above, wash the car really good with Dawn which will help remove all the product ON the car, then Claybar the entire car to remove the stuff that is EMBEDDED in the paintwork and glass.

Then polish and wax or seal it up.

Yes, the wax you put on 5000km ago last year is gone too, but a lot of other stuff will land on your paint that needs to come off with that wash.

Good luck,
Dan F

Meguiars clay bar.

Thanks for the answers btw

Welcome to AutopiaForums btw! :welcome:

Meguiar's makes a quality clay bar although many prefer more aggressive clays. If your paint is really contaminated you may need something a little more aggressive such as Pinnacle XMT Speed Clay or BLACKFIRE PolyClay II.

Most clay, except for Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay is going to remove the wax pretty quickly.

Its not very contaminated. The car have 20k miles on it. My question was really if it was a good idea in my case, to make a dawn car wash.

3 ways to clear everything off a car:
1. dawn dishwash - heavy amt in a bucket
2. iso alcohol in spray bottle 35%
3. Car Pro eraser

If your car has been regularly washed and waxed, you will probably only need a few detailing products: Microfiber towels,Black-trim treatment,Spray-on detailer,One-step polish/wax,Wax applicators or orbital polisher.

If your car hasn't been waxed recently or has a neglected finish, you might need to call in the heavy artillery: Clay bar,Mild polish or pre-wax cleaner,Wax.

What's the suggested ratio of Dawn detergent per gallon of water?
