Removing Wax

What towels are best for removing wax? I have been using Microtex but it sounds like there are mixed reviews on them as far as scratching.

Boy, really tough question. There are many good microfiber towels on the market, some good otc and lots of aftermarket stuff. I have some CG Elite that seems to be very good, but I doubt they are any better than another high quality mf.

Any high quality microfiber will work great. I just ordered a Danase Phat Towel last night and am really excited to try it out. I have always used Meguiar's ones because they are available locally and my local store had them priced wrong last year, so I stocked up. :)

Towels & Accessories

The Phat, Extreme and Buff all look like really nice towels.

There are several grades of the MicroTex towels, but it you have the ones that come in the big packs, they are probably not the best to use on your paint. I do have some MicroTex "Detailing" towels which are fine. If you're looking for easy to get OTC towels, try the Vroom at Target--the gray are very nice, and the orange are better than those cheap ones from W-M.

As others have mentioned, there are many (generally) better towels available online. I have recently seen some nice towels at Pep Boys, at reasonable prices, but I can't quote the brand or description.

I stopped using the Microtex that came in the 25 pack, the blue and white ones. I only buy the 3 pack blue, they seem very plush, I also bought the biggest blue microtex.

I wouldn't use those 25-pack ones for any kind of buffing on paint (ok for bird crap). I think the 3-pack is the "detailing towel" and those are pretty nice.

I used to use the Microtex, but now I've switched to the Target Vroom brand, the gray detailing MF's. They are definitely much softer and last longer. I find that my Microtex's start dying out after a few uses, especially if I'm aggressive with them (scrubbing tires, cleaning engines). Or you could try the MF's at Kmart, which I've heard are even better than the Vroom towels.

What style of microfiber towel should I use to remove wax? I am not talking about a specific brand. If that makes any sense.

A plush and soft one.

Not sure how else to explain it. Not a waffle weave, not a glass towel. Really as long as it works and doesn't leave any marring, your set.

Hope that helps, or maybe someone else can explain it better. :)

Any of the above mentioned towels should work fine for wax removal. I like really thick and plush style microfiber towels for wax removal. Danase's PHAT towel is the mack daddy of microfibers! Its super thick. Put about 4 of the Microtex towels together and you'll get the thickness but not the plushness.

I use both plush and suede-style. Both work fine. When I did a side-by-side comparo I couldn't discern any difference in effort or performance.

But unless you apply LSPs as thinly as I do, you'll probably find you need more suede-style ones because they'll load up with excess product faster than the plush ones will.

As for "should I use [something] "...IMO there's no way for somebody to make that call for you. I'd CD test it and find out first-hand. It's an overly rigorous test in most cases, but I'd rather err on the side of caution.

What was the wrong price? Just curious.
