Removing wax from on top of a coating

I need to remove Blackhole, Midnight sun, and Natty's black wax from on top of Pinnacle Black Label to have only the coated surface for my upcoming wax on pbl test.

I have three choices, (because I'm not polishing it down of course)

Citrus Red

Griots Garage Paint Prep

Optimum Paint Prep

I'm not afraid of stripping the coating with any of these (as I don't think that is a possibility) I just am curious how anyone else would approach this.

Personally I was thinking Citrus red (1 oz per gallon h20) and then griots garage paint prep just in case. And of course for overkill, a final wipe before application with optimum paint prep but I don't know if all that is overkill or just being extra sure everything gets removed.

Perhaps citrus red concentrated and then a wipe down with optimum paint prep right before the wax goes on would suffice.


I realize it might be kind of hard to figure out when all the wax residues are gone but I'm pretty familiar with PBL v1's water behavior as I had it on my truck for two years so I think I got that part covered- and if not my overkill procedure should suffice.

What is your take?

Washed it twice with a heavy dose of citrus red. Definitely lost some of the slickness so i feel pretty good about the toppers being gone.
Will still use optimum paint prep wipedown prior to waxing

Oh and the micro marring is back so the black hole (which was applied first on top of the coating) appears to be gone.


Its really hard to capture with my phone though.
 
Just let the elements take care of this, mother nature will remove it for you in due time. But like Mike and GH said why so many toppings?

Because it sits in my garage and i get bored.

I coated it twice. A few months later I noticed some fine marring and I thought why not see if black hole would fix it.
It did, then I decided to play with midnight sun and nattys black on other areas with and without the black hole to see what covered up the fine marring...because obviously I can't polish it out. And I needed to alter my wash methods at that point.
I have since changed how I wash it.


I know waxing a coating is a touchy subject for some but it's my car, my products, my spare time, and my desire to do so.

I've been topping pbl for two years on my daily driver.

I already started one touchy thread exactly debating this titled 'wax on top of a coating' or something like that I believe. It was two years ago.

My car is a 2009, I don't have a paint reader I have no idea how much clear is left. a few months ago I used the rest of my pbl v1 bottle to coat it, twice.

To me, I see the coating as just adding another functional layer (of essentially clear, if you will) that I can top as I please.


Now I understand I may be degrading the coating by agitating it rubbing on something else etc, but at the same time one could argue the added protection on top of the coating can add life to it as well. So what negates what is up for discussion, just not in this thread. :)

Anyways, I was simply posting this thread to ask what others thought would be the best way to achieve my desired goal. I waited a few days not many people chimed in and today was a nice sunny day so I went forward.

Quite frankly I'm surprised it took so long for someone to pose that question or say something of the like.

I suppose some may disagree with my upcoming test as well, but I will still share my results and thoughts because it adds to the content here and maybe some day it will answer a question someone has.
 
512, I know where you're coming from. Just so we're clear, I've put sealant on top of a coating and wax on top of the sealant. I realize it's all subjective but I thought the look improved when I applied the sealant over the coating and it was only about two weeks out. I understand the getting bored part.
 
It looks better to me as well.
Might lose some of the nice sheeting of the coating compared to the wax but in my experience I'd say it is negligible if any but I've only used pbl v1.

You cant have too much slickness can you?

And i dont find pbl super slick in the first place.
