Removing pickle smell from buckets???

Some time back I was at Firehouse subs. They sell their 5 gallon buckets for a $2 donation so I grabbed 5. I can't seem to get the smell out. Any suggestions?

Time.

I have some old 5 gallon buckets that once held pickles, and they only smelled like them for a few years. Well, maybe more than just "a few", but not forever.

LOL!

Get new ones from HD (home depot.) $2.34

I have plenty of good ones. I planned on using these for storage of excess items, etc. :think2I guess they can make decent trash cans; one in each corner of the garage.

Lots of APC can lessen the smell some, but eventually it will go away. Planning to pick up another one myself over the weekend.

That's bad, pickle smell more irritating and no one like to smell it so I think you should change them and avoid use of plastic and these type of buckets.

am I the only one who loves the smell of pickles?! :)

It has been witnessed that I actually drink the juice straight from the jar!

Chlorine bleach usually does a good job on organic odors.

I'd try mixing a few ounces into a bucket full of water and letting it soak for a while. Just be careful not to splash any on yourself or your clothes.

Lol i had a few of those buckets. They were pickle-green and very durable.

The smell never went away though. Never tried bleach or vinegar, but maybe those would work.

Tried baking soda, APC, dawn and bleach. Each was allowed to sit for at least 2 days. Only the bleach for 4 days made any impact, but only about 50%. I guess they'll work as trash cans or dirty towel bins, but they will remain outdoors t

I tried: baking soda, APC, dawn, and bleach. Each was allowed to sit for at least 2 days. Only the bleach had any impact but after almost 4 days it only reduced the smell by about 40%. I guess they will work as trash cans or dirty towel bins but they will remain outdoors for the summer.
