removing paint from bumper rub

Strange name, ain't it?
I'm doing a green metallic town car this Friday and while giving it a quick look I noticed the rear passenger quarter had a fairly thick, two inch line of white paint from another car's bumper. Now I've got a whole host of polishes, glazes etc but am wondering what type of product would be best to rub out that white paint? Perhaps something like 3M Rubbing compound? I have scratch-X in my kit but doubt that would get it.

You can also try a quick wipe with a solvent. This may save you lots of time and typically removes leech scuffs very quickly.:up
 
Actually, I've had great success removing rub paint marks with 3M SMR and Mother's Pre-Wax cleaner, by hand, using a foam applicator.
 
I have used meg's scratch X to remove paint transfer with the PC. I have also used 3m perfect it III compound, & meg's DACP.

You can also use stoners bug & tar remover

Wow, thx gang. I have a few of the products mentioned but somehow thought I'd need something a bit "heavier"? Also, learned a new phrase...leech scuffs :up.



Friday will be a busy day....light green Saab 9-3 and the Town Car.

Paint transfer usually comes off pretty easy because it isn't bonded to the paint like ... well, like the paint is! I have used Scratch-X for this by hand - VERY effective. i don't think you'll need anything heavier. In general you should ALWAYS follow the rule of using the least aggressive product that will do the job - so even if you do end up using something heavier, you should KNKOW you needed to by having first failed with lighter compounds.
 
AIO works fairly well too. Maybe not on really heavy paint swapping though.



ScratchX should do the trick for ya. My air head sister ran up against one of those yellow concrete pillars that keep you from driving right into the store. The bad thing is that she was in a rental car. She brought it to me and to get it off before she took it back. GS27 and a yellow pad took it right off in about 30 seconds. That's pretty much the same stuff as ScratchX anyway.
