Removing Forever Black.

Is there an easy, effective, and safe way to remove Forever Black dye from plastic trim? It's a long story, but I used it on my gray trim on my car about a year ago, but I've changed my mind and want the gray trim back.
 
Well, I e-mailed TopoftheLine (they sell the dye), and they said lacquer thinner and a terry cloth would be safe and effective. Can anyone tell me if the lacquer thinner will harm the factory clearcoat (if it drips down or something)? Should I mask the surrounding area before using the thinner?
 
What type of trim? Is it clear coated? LT will soften and can harm clear if left too long. I have used it many times with no immediate damage, long term never heard of any damage.



LT will unglue the tape almost instantly. You could try a small section first.
 
The trim is textured plastic. I don't think the thinner would harm the trim itself; my concern is if it came in contact with the the surrounding painted surfaces, would it cause any harm?



I'm going to test it on the door or trunk jam, but any early warning would be great.
 
It would harm the plastic before the paint. I would do a very small test section of trim. If it gets on the paint, wipe it off, no harm done.
 
did you not like the way the trim looked after or something?

Like did the blakc look fake or something? I'm thinking about using FB on my car but dont want to buy it if it doesnt work well

\r\n\r\nForever Black has worked great for me the few times I\'ve used it. I\'ve done parts on an \'86 Porsche 944 and a \'96 BMW 318ti. Both cars had significant fading on trim and in wheel wells and the forever black worked flawlessly.\r\n\r\nHe was merely saying that he changed his mind about the color choice (at least that\'s how I took it :) ).'

Well yes and no. I found it hard to make it look even on a larger piece of trim which I ended up painting. Aside from that, it looked well. But the trim was gray before and I wanted to go back to that.
 
Well I've been outside for about the last half hour with some 000 steel wool and Kent's Speedy 500 (I used it at work as a tar remover so I felt safe about using it around the painted surfaced) and I got about half of the piece on the front bumper done. I may try some APC later also, there's still some little spots that need more work. Thanks for all the help guys! I'm going to order some Trim-A-Shield later today to I can make it look all nice before winter hits.
