Wondering which is better, to remove polish/wax by hand or with MF bonnet? how do you get your car ready for waxing?

I find that I can do a much more thorough job of removing wax by hand. As for getting the car ready for waxing you should first rinse the crud off the car with a strong spray of water then wash the car thoroughly with a car wash soap and a soft clean wash mitt. Wash one panel at a time and be sure to rinse the dirt out of your wash mitt after each panel by swishing it back and forth in the wash water or you could have a second bucket filled with just water for the rinsing out of your mitt so that you are not mixing the dirt in with your wash bucket.

Next you really should clay bar the paint using a clay bar such as meguiars smooth surface clay bar kit or clay magic blue clay. follow the directions on the box. some like to re wash or at least rinse the car and dry it with a soft micro fiber towel or a waffle weave drying towel after clay bar step. Then apply your wax in a very thin layer making sure not to miss any spots on the car and staying off of the rubber trim. Let the wax haze for a while (15 minutes or so) then wipe the wax residue off of the car with a soft clean micro fiber towel folded 4 ways. then turn the towel to a clean side and give the car a final wipe down wiping slowly instead of vigorously wiping. Now you're done

You could use a bonnet on your machine, just be sure that it is a microfiber bonnet and not something that is going to scratch like a coarse wool and be sure that it is clean. then just use your towel to wipe off around the door handles and trim pieces. If you have a machine to do the work, by all means put it to use. I am just used to wiping by hand because I don't carry bonnets with me.

I generally apply the wax with a PC style machine with a 4 inch finishing pad. My thought process is that I do nothing by hand if I have a machine to do it for me.

If you have a longer MF towel you can also simply put your buffer or PC on top of it and let the orbital action on the towel remove the hazed wax. Then go back with a towel in hand to remove any places missed and give the car a final hand polish. I've done this before and its pretty fast. The key is having a large enough towel to wrap the buffer bottom and be able to still control it.
