Remove Cigarette Smoke Odor

A good odor eliminator that you should be able to find locally is odoban at Home Depot. One gallon is 10 bucks and it goes a long way.

My parents purchased a house that had a lot of dog urine everywhere and smelt terrible. With the help of Odoban you could not tell there was ever a bad urine smell in that house.
 
I also agree with MrGolfrider, a good odor eliminator is needed to eliminate the odor; the only thing I like to make sure of, is that the particular odor eliminator does not eliminate the odor by replacing it with another odor.

Recently Detailed a 2003 BMW M5 that had been purchased 2nd hand from a big reseller of high priced vehicles locally.

The new owner only drove it a couple hundred miles and parked it for over a year, because of the overwhelming odor inside it, that was not cigarette smell, it was something else like perhaps 100 of those little smelly trees, etc..
The odor in this car was so strong, it made the driver dizzy, etc., and he was at his wits end to know what to do, and was actually thinking of selling it.

As soon as I opened the door for the first time, the odor coming from the back seats was so strong, it hit you like a rock.
I checked out the seats closely and the same smell was on the leather, every bit of the leather,, and everything else inside.

I knew that this was not normal to have such a strong odor inside a car, so I took it and Steamed the entire inside and cleaned/extracted the carpets as well.

Soon as all the inside was dry, I went back inside it and immediately smelled Nicotine, and figured out that the reseller probably did this to cover the odor, but failed to understand that the new odor was really too strong, etc.

Went through the entire vehicle and found Nicotine in all the places I mentioned in me earlier post above.

Once eliminated, the interior filter changed, and the A/C condenser sprayed with an entire can of Einzett Klima-Clean and allowed to dwell overnight, the carpets sprayed with Meguiars Odor Eliminator, and all the Extended Leather, steamed and treated with Spinneybeck leather conditioner (which has no odor), the only odor in the car was the smell of the Nappa Leather.

This is what I was working for and was successful in this case..

The overwhelming "cover-up" smell the other people put in was gone, the Nicotine smell he never knew about, was also gone.

I used Einzett Cockpit Premium Cleaner on the little plastic in the vehicle, and once that dissipated, all that was left was the really nice Nappa leather smell.
It is a beautiful Black/Black M5 - 14k miles on it I believe; I would have loved to own it!!! :)
