A business plan? Check out these pages:

http://www.sba.gov/hotlist/busstart.html
http://www.bizmove.com/other/businessplan.htm
http://www.google.com/search?q=business+plan+template&btnG=Google+Search

That should get ya started. If you want any specific help, feel free to e-mail me.

Those templates are very general and broad, they cover a LOT of ground. When I wrote my plan using those templates, I left out a lot of areas. IE, if you don't need financing, no reason to fill it out.

Also, keep in mind WHO you are writing it for. That's the biggest thing I think. My first business plan I wrote a few years ago I didn't think about that, and it was a wreck. If you are writing to get investors interested in you, focus on your strengths and why you will turn profitable. If you are, like me, using it as a reference for competitors, goals, et cetera, write it as such.

Have fun!

I have yet to detail a bus. But when I do I will plan on bringing a ladder, a powerwasher and the biggest buffer I can find ;) :p :)

a "bus" as in a vehicle? I was afraid that's what you meant. :D;) I'm still not sure... but you got both answers now anyway. :p ;)

Jeff,

I have a lot of material that I have been writing for a new book. I put the book on the shelf for a couple months so I can finish my first Porsche book. What aspect of the detailing business startup are you looking for?

Send me a PM.

Just wanted to share a quick story on taking care of your customers, listening to their wants and needs on their vehicle and how it can turn into a gold mine.
Saturday I did a Lexus RX350, spent about 10-11 hours on Paint correction and interior , as usual I went above and beyond of what was discussed on detailing....the customer loved my work so much that she told her friends and now I have 3 more cars lined up for next week......bottom line....do the little extra things at no charge and it will come back to you !!

I agree with you 100% Wendell.
Nothing better then a referral. It's the best way to get new business.
Good tiip!!!:Dancing Dot:

This is absolute truth.

Case in point: I did one guy's SLK 55 AMG. He called his mechanic buddy and these jobs followed quickly....

*all owned by mechanic buddy*
-08 Denali XL
-01 Tahoe
-07 Focus
-89 MB 320 (i think)
-88 MB wagon
-09 Sierra 2500HD
-06 Sierra ext cab

*immediately followed by one of the mechanic's buddies*
-07 BMW X5
-01 Suburban
-03 Excursion
-07 Ram 1500 (big lift)
-10 Chevy Tahoe
-09 Corvette Z06

So that one AMG client referred me and I only got 2 new clients, but a LOT of cars from them and they KEEP calling me for more :) :driving:

I absolutely agree! I always try to be an honorable business man first and formost because God has called us to be, and he honors that. Then second because water seeks its own level and if you are good at what you do, fair, and go the extra mile for people it will pay off in the end.
