Hi everyone, great forum here.. I am not a professional detailer, but just bought my first NEW car, and want to take the absolute best care of it I can. I was looking at Meguiar's NXT line of products, and did a search here on this forum which seemed to give positive feedback about the NXT line. My new baby is a white Volvo XC70 (the AWD wagon) which has the heavy black bumpers and trim under the doors. What should I use on that? It seems like a plastic/rubber composite type of material, but the owner's manual says that it's painted. Also, I read on an XC70 forum something about a clay bar. What is that, how and when would I use it? I found this in another thread here:
1. Clay
2. Swirl Remover (Meguiars #9)
3. Show Car Glaze (Meguiars)
4. NXT
any changes for a white car? does color make a difference? how about winter preparation? I live in Maryland, and there's a lot of salt on the roads in winter..
Well, I guess that's enough for now :lol Let the flaming begin :flamed And I fully expect to be told "Take it to a professional!!" :doh

:welcome Truckman
Your steps look right, and the Meg's line does work well and is available locally :D
As for your trim, Poorboy's Bold and bright should work well on it.

Good Luck and have fun

We don't let that happen here. And if you stick around long enough and read enough, you won't have the need to take it to a pro. You can do it yourself. Welcome to the best place on the net for learning from some of the nicest people. You will learn a lot and I'm sure the bug will bite soon!!!!

Hi Truckman, welcome to DC

Flaming is not an option here, everyone is here ot help & share knowledge.

You steps looks good, I'd suggest you may want to an a carnauba topper on the NXT, I found that it stopped beading after a few weeks but, apparently, the protection is still there.

Personally, I like taking a queue from how much beading I see to tell me when I need to apply more protection.

Welcome to the forum

Your steps are great but I do not think that you need a swirl remover just yet as the car is new. I would use the clay for sure and then you can polish/ wax, etc. You might also look at the Poorboys lineup for your can. I feel like it is a much better product and very user friendly for beginners. If the plastic trim on the bottom is that grainy kind then Poorboys trim restorer is about as good as it comes

Thanks for the replies...sorry about the assumptions about flaming, but I've been on many forums where people let loose for the stupidest things :ticked ...

Ok, so that would be the Show Car Glaze, right?
