My fellow detailers... the time has come to replace my Makita polisher. It is an older 9227 two speed unit that I've had since the mid 1980's. She's getting real tempremental...sometimes I'll hit the trigger and it won't operate other times it will start and not shut off unless I activate the trigger three or four times in rapid succession.

What are your recommendations for a new rotary polisher?

Thanks in advance!

I have heard really great things about the new flex rotary...very light and solid construction...if i were going to buy a new one that is one i would look at first..good luck in your search

Why not get another Makita? You can get the 9227c with a carrying bag, two wool puffing pad sand the backing plate for 169+ship on coastaltool?

The new 9227 is a nice machine if you like the bale handle. If you want to go lighter or like holding the machine by the head, Flex and Metabo are great.

I would recommend against Dynabrade, Milwaukee and Dewalt, I've used all 3 against the mak daddy and they offer neither weight, usable power, or feel advantages.

FWIW I use a 9227 exclusively.

I got the newer 9227 and I like holding it by the head too - never got that comfortable with either the bale or side handle.

That's the one I just got. The Flex 3403. It's so light. The *only* thing I don't like about it is that it transmits alot of heat down the drive shaft to the backing plate. Other than that, it's a great machine.
