Recommendations for a good one-stepper?

A friend of mine who's getting me to detail his 996 Turbo and X5 4.8is also wants me to give his wife's XC90 a quick "once over". I've seen this as a perfect opportunity to invest in a one-step product to see what I can achieve.

The problem I'm having is, which product? I guess it's got to have some swirl removing/filling capabilities and leave a decent gloss/shine with respectable durability.

The only products I can think of at the moment are:

NXT

#6 Cleaner Wax

#66 Quick Detailer

Can anybody else help me out and suggest which is generally considered to be the best one-stepper?

Thanks,

Ben.

You may want to try AIO. It's pretty good in terms of cleaning and polishing. It'll leave your car with a good shine and feeling smooth like a baby's...you know.

Many have suggested in the past Meg's ColorX, its available OTC and heard that many like it as a one step product.

I like NozeBleedSpeed's suggestion of 1Z PP. Or maybe their MP or Wax Polish Soft if the marring isn't too bad.

If you're not worried about removing any marring, I'd go with Autoglym's SRP.

Mother's Cleaner wax is a respectable one-step product...alot depends on the condition of the finish.

I know but that's one thing I won't know until I'm in front of the car. I just really wanted peoples ideas of a one stepper because my mind had stuck on the Meg's ones!

Thanks for all your replies,

Ben.

As a one-stepper (and without seeing the car beforehand), would something that has some form of swirl hiding ability (i.e. NXT) be better than something that does not (i.e AIO - at least from what I understand)? Guess this is more a of question than a suggestion :)

Yes 1z MP would be my 1 step choice, very smooth application, polishes well and includes a wax, and you can get it in the UK quite easily. :xyxthumbs The tin spout is awfull though !

If it a nice car than NXT, Nano, Turtle Platinum, Mothers FX and Reflection, If it needs a bit of cleaning than Megs. Color X , #6, or Mothers cleaner wax. If you have it then Klasse AIO would be the top choice.

If you're looking for something to clean and wax, PWC

and AIO are very good. If you need to light polish, Meg's

#66 and HT PPG are very good.

Edit: Swirl hiding ability is something I forgot, but coincidentally my 2 choices are the best at this.

Very good suggestions here. In my eyes, a true all in one should have moderate or strong cleaners. My proposals:

Paint where minor cleaning is needed

Sealant: Mothers FX synwax period. NXT and nanowax as second.

Carnauba or blend: New mothers reflections period. Turtle wax platinum ultra gloss as second.

Paint where moderate cleaning is needed.

Sealant: Nu-finish (don't laugh) FX, NXT or nanowax have cleaners that could barely fit here.

Carnauba: Mother original formula cleaner wax

Blend: No blend has cleaners strong enough.

So, if I had to sumarize and get only ONE product that could fit most of the situations I would probably get NXT or nanowax . They look great, shiny, have moderate claning ability and look quite deep in darks. Durability is not great, but 4 weeks is expected from them, more if they wash less often. Mother cleaner carnauba would be an honorable mention, but NXT and nanowax are shinier and would look better in lights, not to mention easier to apply / remove.

FX is a better product overall but has more of the "sterile" look that is trademark of a sealant. Reflections and turtle wax ultra have (very) mild cleaners, so I don't consider them true AIO, but they are the best looking for darks, and reflections is the best looking overall giving many boutique products a nice run for the money. Nu-finish has mediocre looks, but it surely cleans. As much as I consider the new reflections superior to the rest, it is not a true all in one.

If I were you, I would get 2 or 3 products. Most of them are cheap and you will always have use for them.
