Hey guys, I just bought m105 the other day finally!





I'm currently using it at a body shop cutting 2000 grit scratches, I've used it on 2 straight black vehicles so far. My thoughts? It works pretty good, I don't have any swirling/holograms.



However, I'am having some micro-marring or (scratches) after I'm done using the 105. I'am able to get it to a pretty good finish, but I have to go over it two times.



I'm thinking it's gotta be the pad I'm using. So can you guys recommend me a good pad to finish down those scratches with using the 105?



I did a little project the other day. (My moms qx56) Metallic Black.



I wetsanded the entire vehicle, yes the entire thing. (Excluding hood) It was already painted and sanded before, so couldn't risk sanding that again with the Florida sun. I do have pics, and I will post up as soon as I get the chance.

I used the 105 on it, but I have to go back over it again as there are some sandscratches still left.

I used 105/orange LC/rotary and followed with M205/white LC/PC yesterday and it rocked. There was some pretty good marring/halos too. I did a Dawn wash and 2 alcohol wipe downs and it sat outside most of the day w/o any return. I love that stuff.
 
you HAVE to follow it up with a finer polish...are you not wanting to? If so, there is no way you are going to get a great finish just using 105

That's the impression that I got too.



You can't just use 105 and expect to get rid of all the micro marring and hazing that 105 leaves.
 
agreed. no matter what pad you use, 105 wont finnish down as well as a finnishing polish.. many have has luck with m205 ,i have some, but havnt gotten around to trying it yet. i always finnish with 3m ultrafina, leaves an increadible finish
 
M205 (w/ a finishing foam pad) is very good stuff and on light colors, it's all you need to finish with.



On blacks (dark colors) it's always a 3 step; minimum. I'll figure out a decent 2 step

someday...



Since you're a body shop guy. This is my go-to stuff.



1. Compound - M105 w/ Micro-surface Tuffbuff black 3/4" lambs wool

2. Polish - M205 w/ Lake Country white foam pad

3. Finish - Menzerna Final Polish II / Micro Polish (P0 87MC) w/ Lake Country black foam pad



TufBuf Black Natural Lambswool Polishing Pad [TUFB-01] - $1.90 : MICRO-SURFACE FINISHING PRODUCTS, INC



Then Autogeek for Lake Country pads.



So, it's 3 different pads and 3 different polishes.



It's very important to clean between steps. Especially after the initial

compounding. Don't get any of it on to your middle (2) and finishing (3)

pads.

105 is a compound so you def. need to follow up with a less aggressive polish and pad to help remove the marring, hazing and to help jewel the paint.
 
Hey flash, that wool will work for a rotary?



How do you like how it finishes down?





I tried m105 today on a black mercury which had some decent marring etc.. I hit it with m105, then ultrafina. I came to about 95 percent correction. Will have pics tommorow~~~!!
 
Yes, it's excellent. But you'll need a foamed baking plate like the one here:

I don't even use the pad washer anymore. Simply take the wool pad off,

spray a bit of soap (dawn in a squirt bottle), hose off, fold in half like a taco

and ring the water, place it back on and spin dry. It's actually quick. The pad

will last longer by not using the pad washer.
