Recommend me some abrasives

I`m looking at buying some new abrasives. I haven`t touched machine polishing since my porter cable and Sonüs days. I have heard good things about Jescar Correcting Compound, Griot`s FCC, and Scholl S2 Black, but I`m undecided on finishing polishes and I`m unsure of what to actually buy. I`m also looking at Rupes foam and wool pads. Please provide me some input. I would likely pair this equipment with a Griot`s G15.

Lots of great options.

Sonax cutmax and perfect finish would be an excellent combo. But if you`re into coatings a primer polish might be an option.

DIY Detail gold standard polish with their foam and wool pads.

I can`t wrap my head around that brand. It seems to me that Ivan will put his stamp on anybody`s product as long as they`re paying him more than his previous employers. Though I will admit that if Mike G liked it, then it is probably worth at least trying.

Funny how that works.

I`m really liking the Griots entire line of BOSS abrasives. I haven`t used the Fast Correcting Cream, but really like the Correcting Cream and Perfecting Cream. My pad inventory is a bit of a mixed bag because I`ve been sampling brands as my old stuff wears out. The Boss polishes seem to provide consistent results across pads of a similar cut level.

Can anyone comment on the new Rupes DA Coarse compound or Jescar Micro Finishing Polish?

From everything i read rupes coarse is a fast and dusty cutter. Rupes did appeal to me due to the fact they are marketed as fast acting polishes that should be worked for short sets. I have used rupes fine and just 2 slow passes and it really amped up the gloss on my roof.

Jescar is another high quality brand connected to germany/menzerna somehow.

I would just find a few products that appeal to you the most and run with it. It`s very hard to go wrong with product choice IMO.

I jumped into the Rupes products. And other than a bottle of Sonax Perfect Finish and Xtreme Solutions Finish`er I have nothing else. And a big part of me thinks thats a good thing.... I would be buying bottles of products everyday if I listened to myself listening on here, LOL. Coming from hand products, I have made a massive gain with the products I have. So I agree with above comment about finding a product you like, and you`ll be happy. All products are good today in my opinion.

Regardless of that the product is good. Pad dependent with a good correction and a good finish. Won`t dust or stain trim.

If you do a lot of coatings then the Dr. Beasley`s Surface Primers is my recommendation.

Other runners up

CarPro UltraCut / Reflect
Meguiar`s M110 / 210
Sonax CutMax / Perfect Finish. Only con I have is Perfect Finish dusts so EX 04-06 may be the better choice.

Personally Mike i`ve have no issues with perfect finish. I`ve used it in the Philippines even and had no issues with it getting dusty.

For me dust is usually due to poorly cleaned pads.

I think you`ve done well, overall the products today are much better than 20 years ago and it`s hard to go wrong with any of them.

LOL. Well, admitting the problem is the first step to recovery.

If you are to believe what some on Autopia and some Youtuber`s have said, after leaving Optimum, Yvan was being hit up left and right by brands offering payment for his positive reviews/endorsements of their brand and Yvan turned down far more than he accepted due to not being impressed by their products. He just never made known those brands he turned down, all we saw were the once that get his stamp of approval. Now, is that the truth? I don`t know. From what I know of Yvan, he seems to be a pretty stand up guy and people on here who have used DIY products, they seem to like them and the service they get from DIY.
