Recession discount?

First step to going out of business really. If clientel is slipping look into better marketing over offering lower prices.

Yes, lower rates are a signal of trouble. Like the 3 pairs of $895 Louboutin shoes my wife got at Saks at Christmas for $300 a clip?

I was trying to take the temperature of a luxury market. Lets face it, not everyone springs for $800 for a correction no matter what the clime. Its a luxury.

hi Jdoria :), i am new here so I am not a familiar face to you yet. I can only say this to your question... NO.

I would think very carefully before I did this, for a few reasons;

you offer a service, a service thats a profession..and the work you put into this profession is worth every penny that is coming from your customers for this work and for the convience. SECONDLY...you do not see the local burger joints, gas stations, lawyers, repair shops..ect. lowering their price. I know that this may sound a little on the business side..but thats what we are..a business. If you are finding that you are getting flack or maybe slowing down a bit due to the pricing..then maybe make some small incentives such as an upsell that you may have thought of offering in the past, maybe something that might set you apart from the competition in your area. This is just my opinion and I hope you dont think of me as being insensitive. I do believe that people in this hard economic times are not only basing their willingness to pay asked price on just the overall service, but also the personal basis that you have with them. Personality will win everytime! personal service is next to none! I dont know about anyone else, but me...im personally tired of feeling like a number. If someone treats me special..and can get the job done??...well...count me as a loyal customer! :)

If all the expensive polishs and waxs where at steep discounts then I might entertain the idea. But until then its a no go. Why charge less and make less? I got bills to pay and mouths to feed. :tribe:

I never discount anything! to me it shows a sign that your looking for work or desperation! i have one dealer i due work for at a discounted price, but he feeds me work as soon as i have one finished. other than that i never discount! plus i really don't need to, most people don't ? my work! im real big on educating my client, and that usally defers any ?'s on price!!!!!

Nothing at all wrong with offering a promotion. I was offering a $20 Starbucks gift card to NEW customers. I continuously offer 10% off to existing customers that I have not heard from in a while. I think my services are priced correctly, and offer an excellent value. In this economic environment, people are very concerned with their finances. Even the wealthy are cutting back on things such as auto detailing. Sometimes offering a promotion is all that is need to get someone to buy.

I would only recommend discounting your work if your business is REALLY slowing down. Basically, if the choice is between offering existing customers discounted details to have work or having no work at all that week and in the forseeable future. If your workload has not significantly fallen off and you have work pretty much every day, I would keep your rates as they are.

Create a cheaper package and promote it to them.( Create a package for one-step instead of a full correction or take out feature that people don't need)
