Once you launch a v8 powered rwd car on slicks, there is no going back. :spot

RWD V8 on slicks, AWD on street tires. I've still seen the AWD prevail. I'm not starting an argument here, just noting. AWD in my area is almost required, hence my near upgrade in a vehicle.

Kyle, where are you? Answer your thread :D.

Nice car and beautiful detail. the paint looks absolutely amazing!

Those Cobras sure do fly with a few boltons, but eventhough my M3 is slower (still pulls 13.8 in the 1/4), I just couldnt treade it for the 04 mystic Cobra I looked at. I think this car was just ragged on (I have no frame of reference) but if felt like crap, the clutch was like trying to crush a rock (literally), it rattled and the acceleration was nothing impressive until about 4500RPM. So you Cobra guys was this car just a fluke, lemon or just beat on?

Thanks to everyone for the nice words. And to you with questions, here are my responses.

Mitchubishievo: I really enjoyed the EVO. But I pay $10 more a month for this car than the EVO. I just couldn't put my time and money into a car that I didn't truly "love" like the 03/04 Cobra. To me it's the ultimate car. (New Zo6 close second)

tailwind: I got rid of the other Cobra because of life plans. (IE...House,marriage) But I'm back now for good.

JohnnyDaJackal: :rofl It's seems that way huh. It's pretty bad, but this will be it for awhile.

klnyc: About 10-12 around town! :D

GSRstilez: I will try to get some vids up on streetfire.net here soon. I'll let you know.

Just beat on for sure. To me they are fairly solid cars. Sounds like you found a crappy one for sure.

Probably was modded incorrectly or just abused. I have had 2 Cobras a 2003 and 2004. Both of them the power comes in right away with the supercharger around 1500-1800RPM. then its balls to the walls from there. My 04 Mystic is not only the best Mustang that I ever owned it is also tighter than both of my friends previous Vette's a 2001 and 2004. now they are rattle box cars. I got rid of the factory Goodyear tires on my 2004 Cobra as soon as I bought the car. I hate goodyear tires. I put on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 2's and the Cobra is like a different vehicle. It rides and handles alot better and is quieter with the Michelins. I have been in many different years of M3's and I like the M3's but I would not give up my 04 Mystic for one.

Looks great, buddy! I'm glad you got the car you wanted.

I will probably will be the only one to say I liked the EVO better. Once you launch in an AWD car, its hard to turn back. Plus, no need for a winter or foul weather car.

Regardless, I bet that thing is a trip to drive and probably has the exhaust note to back it up. Any chance of a short vid :D?

Oh don't worry, you're definately not alone :). I love Cobras, and I will probably like iti even more when my friend lets me drive his modded 03 next spring after (err, more likely before) a detail  ....but they have nothing on Evo's and most any AWD car in the twisties, which is my preferred type of racing.

You should try some Goodyear F1 GS-D3s sometime. I run them every season except for the winter, and they're without a doubt the best street tire I have ever owned. Even great in the rain.

The GS-D3's were one of my choices when I was replacing the F1's on my Cobra. the Pilot Sport 2's were rated better in all handling and cornering tests except for a slight advantage to the GS-D3 in the wet. I dont drive my Cobra everyday and never in the wet. so my choice was the Michelin. I am sure that the GS-D3's are excellent tires and many of my fellow Cobra owners over at SVTPERF. use them but I would not say they are better than the Pilot Sport 2's.

I have Pilot Sport 2's on my car right now. They are good tires, but you can find better for cornering or handling (ie. Yokohama Advan Neova AD07) for around the same price. The Yokohama is similar (sucky) to the PS2 in the wet as well. I personally think that PS2 is overpriced. The Goodyear's go for $30 cheaper per tire and provide much better wet traction and very similar dry grip.

Um, the fastest cars down the 1/4 mile use rwd.

Lorne

awd is only faster off the line but suffers bad drivetrain loss once it gets going.

yes, duh, rwd is better down the 1/4.

congrats on the switch over again! love the car

did we get off topic or what?

Wow, talk about a thread hi-jack! :faint:

Someone asked about future plans:

-H&R SuperSport springs

-18x9/18x10 Black Fr500's with polished lip

-2.93" upper pulley/4# lower pulley

-Stiegemeier Stage Three Ported blower

-Window tint

520 RWHP is my goal for this car. :chuckle:

AWD turbo cars are a blast, but there is nothing more satisfying than the burble of a V8 at idle and the roar of it at WOT.

Everyone needs to own one of each.

2005 Saab 9-2x Aero

1978 Chevy Impala w/ 472 Cadillac swap (god, I need to finish this car)

And yeah, launching an AWD car is wicked, but I raced my Saab last week vs. a buddy's 2005 Mustang GT. He gave me the brake, and I launched pretty good. He said I jumped 2 car lengths on him. He lit up the rear in first and got sideways a bit in second, but even with all of that, he blew my doors off when I hit about 85, so he would have *just* beaten me out in the 1/4. With a more capbable driver and a heads up start, the Mustang owns any WRX.

As far as the light AWD cars being faster in the turns, that doesn't matter one bit when the American muscle blows by you on the straight and won't let you around in the twisties.

Nice purchase BTW. I'm not a Mustang fan, but the SC Cobras are awsome. How does that power plant differ from the Lightning motor?

The lightning motor is a 5.4 motor. They make an insane amount of torque. Only down side is they are only good for I think about 12lbs of boost before they start breaking stuff. Cobras are "safe" for up to 18lbs with a lot of guys running more and working fine.
