Reasons why new/recently lacquered cars mustn't be polished??!

I know that fresh paintwork mustn't be polished/sealed with waxes and that it must be allowed to cure for at least a month.

What are the prime reasons/consequences?
 
The paint requires time to finish curing and in order to do this it has to be able to outgas. This takes an extended period of time and if it is not allowed because a car is waxed too soon the paint neve hardens correctly and will swirl *much* easier from that point on.

You are able to polish paint during this time, but keep in mind it will be quite soft so your technique will be different than if it's fully hardened.



For some limited protection while the paint is curing, use a glaze such as Meguiars #5.
 
Also, fresh *lacquer* repaints can take quite a while to harden enough for final abrasive polishing. Regular b/c hardens up quite a bit faster but are still quite a bit softer after one day than they are after three weeks.
