Really plush MF towels, yea or nay?

With the present interest in extremely plush and even shag MF towels, I wonder if this is really all that great of an idea.
It has been my experience that MF towels tend to grab and hold particles of various types. Might be dirt, might be leaves, might be lint, just stuff.
My more plush towels seem to be harder to remove this "stuff" from.
Is there a point of diminishing returns when it comes to the plushness of MF towels?
Some of the towels I first purchased were nowhere near as plush as some of the towels available today and they seem to work quite good for drying, Spray & Wipe, 4 in 1, polish, QD, wax, sealant removal. Any residue trapped in them is much easier to remove.
How about some other opinions?

I agree Charles there has to be a point of return...a 1/2 inch thick MFT is pushing that point IMO

I have a lot of plush towels from Steve and they all seem to do the job just fine...I can't believe that one that is 1/2 thick is going to do a better job

Charles I think they have a place in the detailing arsenal, but not as a replacement of a multi-use towel. I have customers that delegate a certain job to a certain color and nap and some who want more than one color in a certain nap for different jobs.
Like someone said :notme: you can never have too much microfiber :D

I assume your are talking about cleaning them, and how it maybe harder to get the junk out....

I have yet to clean the new plush ones I got from steve, but I can see what you are talking about...

I have had leaves stick to the non plush ones and they are impossible to remove, so I can only imagine the plush ones...now on the plus side they removed wax and polish alot easier then the normal style...

Yes.

Interesting. Do you think part of that is what product you are using?

Don't get me wrong, I really like my Mega Plush Towels and the deep pile does make them feel like they should do a better job, but.... In actual use, I have never really noticed much difference in removing wax or sealant.

When using a QD, Spray & Wipe or a rinseless wash, the more plush towels do seem to absorb more product and I use fewer plush towels doing the same job.

I think the plush towels actually work best for removing heavy waxes or polishes :idea

And that may be why I don't notice any big difference. I don't use any heavy waxes or polishes.

Does your comment mean that you don't prefer them for S&W?

I just ordered some of the half inch towels when I have had a chance to use them I will give my opinion of them.
I have a lot of MF towels with everything from a short nap to the ultra plush from Pak-Shack and Fiber Works.
I also have several types of towels from Meguiars.

For removing QD on show car I prefer the Ultra Plush from Pak Shak.
Since the car is maintained to a show room look all the time and I have not had the trash problem.

The only time that happened was one time when I dropped a towel and I brought it home and used the air hose to blow it then threw it in the wash.
I have towels that I prefer for removing wax another that I like for removing sealant and a different ones for QD'ing :bigups

I used mine yesterday with S&W and thought they did fine, it appeared they could go a little farther then a not as plush MFT...

The more plush towels are definitely what I prefer with S&W.
Having said that, when I first started using S&W about five years ago, the really plush MF towels weren't available and I had no problem with the ones I did have. In fact, I'm pretty sure I was using cotton terry towels at the time. (And wouldn't be worried about using them now.:))

I don't think I have any cotton terry towels anymore, I have since used only MFT type towels. I just feel that with their design they actually do a better job cleaning off what ever is there...

I probably still have 30+ cotton terry towels and the main reason I switched to MF, (probably have 50+), was all the talk about how much better they were for your paint. No marring and all that yakkity yak. I used cotton terry for a looong time and any marring was usually from something other then the actual towel. That can also happen with the MF towels.
My old cotton terry towels are now my wheel and underhood towels. I still can't bring myself to wipe a really cruddy/dirty area with my MF towels. :)

I agree I don't think the marring was from the towel itself but rather what was on the towel, thats why I thought MFT towels where better because they would trap small particels, while with cotton they just sat on the surface...

Charles you can NOT buy the good towels like your old one.
The only cotton towels that I have are used to wipe the wheels but they are hard chrome and damage would be difficult unless the towel had a sharp object in it.

If you are trying to make the point that you can detail your car without MF towels I would agree

Just like you don't have to buy $1200.00 wax but some will do it and get no better results.

If a person could buy high quality cotton towels then we could discus which was best but since their is no longer any quality cotton towel available the MF towel is the only game in town
