Really odd problem with glass

My guess would be that something happened to this individual/specific window in it's life (since the other ES350 didn't have the same issues).

My best guesses:

1. The original factory window was replaced with a substandard one (substandard of lexus anyway). In this scenario I couldn't guess why there is a haze with glass cleaner vs. ONR.

2. Some sort of "sealant" was applied only to this specific window in it's life.

3. Some sort of hazing (either chemical or abrasive) happened only to this specific window in it's life.

Someone like Dr. G who is well versed in the makeup of ONR might be able to shed a little more light on this one.

What is odd is that an ONR dampened towel is about the only thing that doesn't cause the haze.

Using Werkstat Prime and ZAIO made it worse, Meguiars #205 made it better but only the ONR dampened towel followed by a dry MF got everything off.

Lexus definitely puts some sort of permanent coating on their windows at the factory. I have an IS350, and rain always sheds off the windshield and side windows as if they were sealed, and they haven't been.

Pure guess (like everyone else), but it sounds like that coating was possibly "roughed up" in the past by polish or something else. Does it feel smooth when you clean it?

Lexus buys the glass with this coating applied. It is hard but not as hard as the glass itself. That's the reason they don't put it on the windshield. Over time the wiper blades would abrade it making it hard to see through.

I suspect this is the result of abrasion of the coating. Aggressive products containing abrasive polishes will scour this coating and likely result in the condition observed. I never use anything abrasive on auto glass. I'd also bet that Lexus is not the only manufacturer to use this type of glass so be forewarned that you could be on the hook for glass replacement if you damage a customers car.

I typically just clay the windshield and clean with IG or Meguiar's Glass Cleaner (the detailer line product). Never had an issue getting the glass spotless.

Feels real smooth. Just odd that out of all the Lexus I've done over the last 15 years this one window is the only one that has ever done this.

The question that comes to my mind is why is ONR "removing" the haze? Is it masking the haze some how, or is it truly removing it? Is there a haze if you just wash it without cleaning the glass?

Interesting to know about the lexus coating on the windsheild.

No haze when I wash it, I just go over the exterior glass with Quikshine to make sure it is streak free and because my customers love the way water beads and flys off the glass.

9 times out of 10 the car is in the full sun so going back over with ONR definitely removes the haze.

it might be something on the felt that is used for weather stripping on the door? you might try cleaning it, i had a car that had gotten silicone, dont know how, but i had to remove the door panel and clean it with a degreaser

i removed the door panel to be able to have room to clean the outer seal. i know scott said it was on the outside

So then why is quickshine leaving a haze only on the drivers side is the refined question............

Since QS does not haze the other windows, you are left with a problem windshield only on the drivers side.

LOL we are left with no answer other than to replace the glass, or keep doing what you are doing. Baffling..........
