Real wood trim care?

On the new old Jag, there is a lot of real wood trim. It's a 1994 XJS; how do you care for the wood?

TIA,

Tony

Does it have a gloss or is the finish dull?

If a gloss then you can use a plastic polish, a very mild car polish, Klasse AIO or even a furniture polish.

If dull and you can actually feel the grain of the wood (many times its a faux wood) our old car owners use a regular furniture polish, Murphys wood soap and some other product of which the name slips my mind but its like water in consistency and is crafted for furniture, sold at Home Depot or Lowes.......man I can't remember the name and now it's bugging me!:loco:

I'm sure any decent LSP is going to look just fine. FWIW, I used P21s on Mercedes and BMW wood. There should be pretty much no issues of shortlongevity when it's on wood in the interior of the car.

I restrict polishing to very mildly abrasive products as the finish on mine ('85) is quite thin; I generally don't go stronger than 1Z Pro MP, and I also use that (and 1Z Wax Polish Soft) on the interior wood of other vehicles.

But most of the time, I usually just use my old (also circa '85) Zymol wax for wood, which appears to be a mild cleaner wax. I used to top it with Souveran or even something actually durable, but I got tired of having to be soooo careful not to get it on the surrounding areas.

I guess somebody more Autopian than Yours Truly might use the Klasse twins (yeah, that's a hint, maybe even a suggestion ;) ).

Watch out around the edges if the dash A/C vents, that's where XJS wood usually starts to have issues. If the finish starts to fail/delaminate it's not automatically the beginning of the end, but you do have to be really careful to not speed up the deterioration.

I use MinWax Wood Cleaner for cleaning household woodwork and dirty furniture; it sounds like what you're thinking of and I do get it at Lowes. I don't use it on the vehicle interior wood, but I'm sure it'd be OK.

I wet sanded, compounded, and polished my wood. I keep it waxed.

This was the worst spot:
