Re-charging your CRSpotless *Resin*

I've got a call out to CRSpotless to see what they say. As I said I can bypass my softener really easy, the softener is in the garage, and on the other side of the same wall where the softener is (on the outside) is my hose bib. So it's not a big deal like Accumulators setup ;)

Yeah, that is cool that you can bypass yours so easily.

As for the CRSpotless guys, I'd be willing to bet that they tell you that it's best to *not* run softened water into your unit, but it's ok if you *have* to. But that's just because they're gonna want to give you the easiest answer, and probably because that's what the boss told them to tell people. I'm sure they get asked that question all the time.

SuperBee364- OK, roger that info, but I don't think I'm gonna just run the Anion or anything like that..

Don't blame ya a bit, Accumulator. If you're going to run soft water into a CRSpotless, it's probably the safest course of action... running it through both resin types.

That's the answer I'm expecting too, but ya never know. You know, I was thinking how nice it would be if the CRSpotless itself had a bypass in it too, that way when you are washing your car you can have the CRSpotless hooked up in bypass mode to do the initial wash/fill buckets/etc. THEN once you're ready to rinse just flip a lever/knob and BOOM.. spotless rinse. Rather than have to go fiddle with your hose bib etc.. (which yeah yeah, I know you have a "Y" at your hose bib you fancy pants)

Just thinking out loud.

Well "they" wouldn't call you Accumulator if you didn't have a little bit of everything.

Yeah, too much of too many things....

Especially since that softener is timer-controlled, rather than the flow/demand style (yeah yeah, I know :o ). If the water were to be harder/less-softened than expected I wouldn't want to find out after I'd spotted up the vehicle.

Get a fancy enough setup at the spigot(s) and it really *is* as simple as throwing a lever ;) And fortunately, the multi-output fixtures (with shut-off for each output) are only a few bucks.

One output to the CRS, one to the foamgun's hose, one to the regular-use hose. Nice, simple, and user-friendly.

Yeah, but 2 to 3 different 50 foot hoses laying around. That's not simplifying things, that's making my wife want to stab me! (more than usual)

Fluxy, yeah, I have a splitter on my spigot, then I run two hoses to my pressure washer. One of which has the CRSpotless attached. The combiner at the pressure washer has a valve on each hose, so I can select either straight water from the spigot, or DI from the CRSpotless.

Yeah, it does require two hose runs, but it does make the resin last longer.

Well I plan to only use the CRSpotless for final rinse, I was just thinking of an easy way to do that without fumbling with which hose goes to the hose bib etc.

Uhm...well, actually I have *FIVE* hoses lying around the shop :o

Heh heh, it never even occurred to me that multiple hoses would be an issue, shows how differently people view this stuff!

I would like to mention that when working with any strong acids or bases, you must wear GOOD eye protection.

That's the problem with *really* long posts like mine. Stuff like...

6. Carefully (you are wearing gloves to the elbow, eye protection, and any other needed hazmat protection, right??? RIGHT?????) place the CRSpotless cartridge that contains the acid (cation) resin in the bucket containing the acid/water mix. Let it sit for an hour. Occasionally, carefully (CAREFULLY!!! ) slowly raise, then lower the cartridge back in the bucket.

...gets buried in the wall of text.

My Dad has a 454 Casull, btw. :) One of the early ones made by **** Casull about 30+ years ago. Fun gun, but I sure couldn't shoot more than a couple cylinders full in a day.

So after catching up on all these threads I was thinking (hoping) that my water softener was going to make my resin last longer. Sigh, I knew I would regret not taking Chemistry in high school.

It's times like these that almost make me wish I hadn't become so OCD about detailing. Ah, the days way back when an old dishrag and some dish detergent, rinse, chamois and voila.

Ah, but thanks to you, we all have a place to get the stuff for cheap! :up

I did find a place that's cheaper, but it looks like it might be kind of a pain to order from them. You have to call them, see if it's in stock, get a shipping quote, etc. Much easier to just point and click at windows101. There's a link to the cheaper place a few posts.. er.. pages back.

All the mixed bed resins I saw on that page were more than Windows101 was selling it for.

Started mixing my NaOH and putting it in my old gallon jugs. 24 liquid oz of NaOH in 88oz of DI H20 almost melted a hole in the gallon jug. If I had not had it in an ice water bath, it would be in my 5 gallon bucket by now haha. Definitely a lot of fun to mix though. I did a trial separation for a 3:11 set up and it separated perfectly :)
