Raven FR-S, Ferrari 360, 997 Turbo, VW GTI

Sorry for my lack of better pics, with the exception of the FR-S, these weren't correction details so I didn't go crazy with the camera.

This Raven FR-S was in probably the worst shape of all the 86s I've done to date. Dealer-abused in a bad way, it already had damage you'd expect to find on a 3-4 year old car...deeper swirls, RIDS and some nasty hard water etching. This one got a two-step correction with Meguiars M105/D300 on Microfiber cutting pads followed with HD Polish on a green B&S pad, then OptiGuard to protect it.

This Ferrari 360 was covered in a matte grey vinyl wrap, so obviously no polishing or waxing was done on it. Most of the work was interior and engine bay.

Wheels needed some work

Leather was dirty and stained from recent engine work

Exhaust can was oxidized and water spotted

Porsche 997 Turbo just had the wheels recently blasted and the lips powdercoated so OptiGuard was used to protect them. The car was washed and clayed, and a coat of Wolfgangs Deep Gloss Paint Sealant was added.

This GTI had some sanding scratches on the hood from purchase, either from the factory or the dealership. The hood was spot compounded with Scholls S3 Gold on an Optimum MF cutting pad then polished with HD polish on a Crimson HT pad. The rest of the car was in good condition so the paint was touched up with AutoFinesse Tripple on a green pad and protected with AutoFinesse Tough Coat. Garry Dean's Tuned Performance Tire Gel was used on the tires...great stuff!

Thanks for looking!

Nice work on all of them!

Every FRS I have detailed has been swirled and marred, just unreal that Scion rolls out a car this important to the company and their dealers are tearing up the paint on them.

Thanks Scott! Most of the FRS/BRZs that I've had come my way have gotten by with a one-step, but this one was way beyond that. It really looked worn out. :(

Winning!!!! :preggers:

Thanks again David! I saw that ninja edit too! I bought CG Meticulous Matte a while back and used it on this car. It claims to do some light cleaning and protecting, but I'm not sure it really cleans or protects anything....it was a waste of money IMO. This car had some spotting on the vinyl which looked like maybe grease stains. I tried the CG Meticulous Matte, ONR at QD strength, Meg's window cleaner and even HD Polish by hand (lightly) and nothing worked on the stains. I even spoke with Donald Fazekas about what he thought might clean the spots off the vinyl, since he's started doing vinyl wraps. Everything I tried failed, and the owner is considering getting it re-wrapped anyway. But if anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears. I have to go back to do some paint touchup and light scratch removal on another one of his cars....if I can get the spots off his vinyl when I go back, I'll be a hero!

Nice work on all of them! Nice to get an F car and not have to polish it! Leaves more time for the details!!

Thanks man! It was a little disappointing with the 360 though...the wrap had issues with peeling, edges, etc. Plus for my first Ferrari, I would have loved a chance for some polishing!

Nice work Mike, I am partial to GTI's (own a black 08) and that red one looks excellant!

Thanks June! I promise, it IS red too, not pink or orange. I just don't think my camera can tell the difference...:tsk:

Wonderful stuff Mike! Love the thread.

Thank you very much Thomas!

Mike, what kind of spot was on there? You don't have a picture you could send me, do you?

Sure do. It's not the best, but you can see some very light spotting. It's pretty much restricted to the roof and front fender, on the passenger side only. The owner isn't sure what it is, he just recently bought the car and it came like that. Any thoughts? TIA Donald!

I also should mention I tried Optimum Power Clean 3:1 as well.

To me, that almost looks like some kind of environmental staining. Tree sap, bird bomb, road paint...something more along those lines. When you said grease stains, I was thinking grease from handprints/sweat, and whatnot. Those are much darker than what you've got. You'll definitely get some prints and marks when installing film, but they usually come up pretty easily. Re-wrapping those panels shouldn't be expensive at all; but for kicks and giggles you could try machine polishing it. From my understanding, you can get away with doing that on matte films without changing the look of the film permanently (the high spots should come out with window cleaner or natural exposure), but I've only heard that; never tried it. If its going to be replaced anyway, it may be worth a try.

You could try talking to John Kleven about it. He may have some tips for you, as the guys at Metro have MUCH more experience with films than I do.

Thanks Donald, that's a great idea. I've seen Jimmy Lucci polish that matte white Veyron, and I believe Ron suggested it here to someone else recently as well. Also, I'll see what John has to say about it. I appreciate the help, man!

Nice work on everything! I'm diggin that matte finish on the Ferrari.

Thanks Alex! I wasn't too sure what to expect when he told me it was matte wrapped, but it actually looks ok on this car. I could do without the red stripes, though. BTW, I saw your Impala/SPF writeup on the "other" Autopia. That's pretty impressive. I feel like I need to try some SPF myself now! :wof:
