Rasky's Auto Detailing: 2008 VW R32

Rasky's Auto Detailing
2008 VW R32, paint correction only.

The owner recently purchased this car out of state. It has about 45,000 miles on the clock and the paint was in pretty rough shape. Upon inspection you could see heavy cob-webbing and a few noticeable RIDS. The owner and I talked about different options and we opted for a 2-step correction, which was in his budget and I felt should reach his desired goal of 90-95% correction. I had also offered to spot hit the RIDS with M105 and then planned to do the whole car with SIP and PO85RD via the rotary. After doing a few test spots the webbing was easily removed by SIP, but it reveled more of the deeper scratches, which would not come out without several passes of SIP. My OCD got the best of me and I went ahead and did a 3-step correction. I phoned the customer and said I was unhappy with the amount of correction I was getting with my planned process and that I was going to do the extra step at no extra charge. With the below process I felt I easily achieved 95% correction, if not more. ;)

Process:

Wash – Meguiars Gold Class using the 2BM

Wheels – P21S gel and various brushes, ZAIO, Opti-Seal

Tires – Amazing Roll Off, Hyper Dressing 3:1

Clay – Meguiars Mild Clay, Last Touch (Owner had recently clayed and the car didn’t need much claying)

Trim – Meguiars Ultimate Protectant (Lab Sample P)

Glass – Meguiars D120

Headlamps - M105/M205/ZAIO

Taillights – M205/ZAIO

Door shuts – ZAIO (M105/M205 on the rockers)

Correction step 1- M105 via rotary and wool pad

Correction step 2 – M105 via PCXP and Cyan LC Hydro pad

Correction step 3 – M205 via PCXP and Tangerine LC Hydro pad

LSP – Blackfire Wet-Diamond

It was supposed to rain the final day so I quick pulled the car out to get some sun pics while I could. This was right after M205 and no LSP on the car yet.

I LOVE THIS COLOR BTW!!!

About 14hrs invested.

Thanks for looking,

Nice work. I like that car quite a bit. Do you know if the tails have Niteshade tint on them? They look like they do have a light coat of it. I have my tails Niteshaded and they definitely need to be polished, but I'm afraid that taking my PC to them will affect the coats of Niteshade. Any advice anyone?

Well the only bad part about our OCD's is that we don't get paid for that "little extra"... but it makes us feel good anyway :). Nice work, Chad! I like that color, too :).

You really brought back the clarity and gloss to the paint without even reaching the LSP step--Nice :goodjob. I'm sure the BFWD also helped.

Wow, talk about wet. I love those R32's, my friend had one, then wrapped it around a pole :( Great Work!

Thanks! I really like them too...the exhaust looks so cool like that! ;)

Yeah, the tails have some sort of spray tint on them from the previous owner. They polished up just fine and it removed the marring/scratching that was in them. The owner doesn't really care for it and said if the polishing didn't help that he was probably going to remove it.

I used M205 on the PCXP with a yellow 3M polishing pad (UK) at a speed of 4-5. I did a spot by hand first to see how it would react to the M205.

So true! I just do this on the side so it doesn't bother me doing the little extra. If it were my only source of income I don't know if I'd do it though. :grinno:

Thanks Jesse!

nice color, nice results!!!

question though, you said you were going to 2 step it, yet did 3 steps of SIP, then opted for a full 3 step process...Do you count steps as in working each polish until the defects are removed, or each time around the car? I count it by times around the car, which is why I am a little confused!

and how do you like the hydrotec pads? I have some on order and waiting to try them out before I either buy more, or buy more of the same pads I currently use!

Sorry for the confusion. My original plan of attack was to use SIP and PO85RD as a 2-step. I did the original 50/50 test panel with SIP and was unhappy with the results. It required 3 applications of SIP to get the test panel where I wanted it, which was why I then chose to go with a 3-step correction using M105/M205. ;)

Not sure how I feel about them yet. I definitely prefere the feel of the LC Classic pads from PAC better, but it could just be a matter of getting used to how stiff the Hydro's are. They definitely worked well on this car though. :bigups

was wool really necessary on this car? Is it because the clear was very hard?

one more thing, I notice you use Gold class wash, I'm looking forward to buying NXT wash- which is cheaper for some reason, did you ever use NXT if so do you recommend it over Gold Class?

Great Job! You were the one who brought me into detailing after seeing your work on 8thgen :)

Awesome job Rasky!!

The color really popped after the 3 step even before the LSP. Keep up the good work!

Thank you!

Because the clear is hard on this car a 2 step process would not achieve the level of correction I was looking for. The webbing could easily be removed, but many of the deep scratches would have remained. ;)

I've used the NXT once in the past but prefer the Gold Class over it. Either one will work fine though.

Always nice to see another Ocho member getting into detailing! :D

huge turnaround. :goodjob

What do you think of ultimate protectant (lab sample P)? Do you have any feedback on its durability or resistance to rain?
