Dave the problem you picture in your post is being addressed. We have changed the "cut back" to a small bevel. It had been in process for a few months. Lake Country had to buy a new tool to accomplish this and then make a number of test set for us to approve. We settled on a design and are changing over all of our pads. The 5.5" CCS pads we just received have the new design. The other style of cut back was never a problem in the past and offered added protection for the vast majority of people polishing. It was of course when the "heavy pressure" format came into play that it caused the foam to come up around the backing plate and then cut into it. This being said, we never had a lot of complaints with this issue but it was enough to draw our attentiont to it and try to adjust for the "New" style of polishing people are using.
The 5.5" x 7/8" "Thin" Hydro Tech pads were put on the site today. They work extreamly well with this style of polishing. $22 will get you a three pack, your choice of color.
