Range Rover

Given Land Rover's rep with reliability, would you buy a first year Range Rover? Anyone know the mpg for this truck?

Which model are you looking at? I'd seriously look at other options if it were me (which it's not). I had a family member that owned a Rover and he had pieces of the interior duct taped because it was such a pile of s***. It looked sweet and performed well, but geez...

i hear the the fit and finish of the new ones have improved over the previous generations. i just want to know how big of a headache im might be getting myself into. anyone with or know anyone with a 2003+ range rover?

Talk to Ferrarislave on exotixboard.com.

He's the administrator of that site and has an 03 Rover, knows quite a bit about it.

I believe they have the Jag motors now, oh, well yeah I guess Ford eh.

My buddy had a beautiful silver 05 HSE, He loved it as did I. The first 3 months of ownership he had such a hard time with it he ended up giving it back under the lemon laws, it killed him to do that but it was a piece of crap, he has a 4.8 now. Maybe the 06's are better.

A first year Range Rover (2003) will have the BMW V-8 in it. They switched over to the Ford/Jaguar V-8 (with more power - 282 vs. 305) for MY2006, I believe.

I think Car and Driver did a review that I read some time back... not exactly sure to be honest...

BUT I remember them or someone else saying due to the weight and gearing/etc the mileage SUCKS for the Range Rovers.

Here is what the EPA says:

2003

Fuel Type Premium Gasoline

MPG

(city)-12

(highway)-17

MPG (combined)-14

2004 & 2005

Premium, 12, 16, combined 13

Keep in mind many drivers will experience lower actual mileage than the EPA tests (their test samples have been debated to need updating, such as highway speeds being set at a steady 45 mp/h!) Hope this helps!
