Raised My Garage Temperature by 14 Degrees.

You can buy PC7424 from www.coastaltools.com for $115 with pad on your own. You may be saving shipping though which I think is $6.

My garage usually runs around 38- 45 degrees during the winter. Building codes in our area forbid putting an HVAC vent in the garage because of the chance of vehicle exhaust entering the dwelling through the return air system.
I didn't add a return air duct to my system so that is not a concern for me (in over 40 years of driving I've NEVER warmed up a car in the garage!

BACK ON TOPIC: I added a flex dryer vent and ran it from a HVAC supply duct in the laundry room, cut a hole for the dryer vent, and connected both ends!
My garage is now a cozy 58 degrees (with no return air vent). I'm hoping for a nice cool air-conditioned garage this summer also!
I also made a vent cover in case I want to work with the garage door open.

Cool! Or warm... A warm garage is a happy garage. I've got a 1/2 bath sharing a wall with the garage with a vent supply that didn't get a damper. The small room is always the warmest or coolest in the house. Think I'm gonna take a page out of the Luster Garage HVAC book and do a little modifying. Got plenty of heat with a 75,000 BTU Reznor hanging from the ceiling but I could use some A/C out there at times in the summer.

That's what I'm looking forward to! That garage is STIFLING in mid-summer!!!! If it would drop the temp to 80 and reduce the humidity, I'll be extremely pleased!

This is wear i f'd up this winter. I forgot to bring all of my cleaning products in like i ALWAYS do. I just got tied up with work/family stuff and totally spaced it. I went to snow blow my driveway, got done with that. Then I saw ly liquid wax on my shelf and about blew a gasket 
In that split second i just realized I had lost about $500 in products easily. By not bringing them inside. My garage is just not insulated well. Yesterday morning it was 29 degrees in my garage!
Doesnt work well with auto products at all. Everything was frozen. I brought it all inside now. To see what I can salvage if anything.

Without Return Air, the airflow is reduced. When I open the door from the garage to the house, airflow is doubled. So when I'm working in the garage, I leave the door open about 2 inches. It warms up quick!
Good work Bill. That's one advantage to having a house built in 1962, they didn't have all the codes that they have today, so I have two registers in my garage coming off a supply trunk that I open up in the winter to keep me nice and toasty. I normally just block them off in the summer and put my window A/C out there. Either way, it's always very comfy for me and my cars in the garage. :clap:

Winter has never been too bad with the space heater, but now it's warm all the time.
Summer is a different story! The humidity combined with the heat from the car engines... and the HEAT HAS NO WHERE TO GO! I may go with a return air line this summer if needed.

How many outside walls does your garage have? Are they insulated?
I have 3 non-insulated outside walls including my non-insulated garage door. Summer heat is my main concern here. :w00t:
I have a small portable AC unit with a 12k BTU rating and a claimed 400sq ft capacity. On the hotest summer days all it does it drop the humidity 10 points and the temp is about the same as outside. Better then nothing, but not what I want.
Last summer when I had my outside AC unit replaced, I talked to the AC installer about running two 6" supplies and an 8" return over to the garage. With a mechnical shutoff, it was going to run $600. :w00t: He said it would not do that much for the garage since there was no insulation in the outside walls, garage door or the garage ceiling in the attic.
He suggested a seperate split system with 13-15k BTU, but they are at least $1500. I dont do enough detailing in the garage to make it worth it (70% of the details where mobile this year.)
I think I have my insulation problem pretty much solved now, plus I plan on getting a insulated garage door before summer.
Just this past week I had my attic roof decking sprayed with Icynene. They also did above the garage ceiling.
After 2 days of cleaning out my attic, this is what the area above the garage looked like:
After they sprayed the icynene this is what the same area looks like:
They removed the plywood sheets from the floor and sprayed under there as well:

Note that the rafters over the garage are 2x6 and over the house they are 2x8. They spray 5-5.5" so it does not cover the 2x8s all the way.

Hey Bryan...
2 outside walls...both insulated + the garage door and ceiling are also insulated, so it will hold heat pretty well. I do need to replace the weather stripping around the door to seal it up a little better.

It's nice to work in the garage without freezing! (T-shirt and shorts!)
It's very cold here today... 27* with a strong north wind. The garage is 57*. Perfect temp for working on cars!
That insulated outside walls help alot! Most people would consider 57? cold, but when its 27? out its very nice. :biggrin:

gmblack, that spray foam will save much doe year round. notice how much longer snow stays on your roof cuz the heat from the house isn't melting it.
