Rainy Days - ?

Just want opions on what to do if you have deatils scheduled and it turns out to be a rainy day?

Do you reschedule, or do it anyway?
 
I used to do a lot of business on rainy days. Its all about how you sell it. Knowing what the customer's objections will be on a rainy day will help. Probably the most common is the old "I don't want to pay to have my car detailed if its just going to rain on it." The way to overcome that one is easy. You aren't just washing the car for them. If it was just a car wash then I can see their concern. Why would you want to pay for something that you could do yourself and then have it ruined immediately afterwards? The difference is that you are offering something that they may not be able to do themselves. You are detailing the car and that is a lot different than just washing it. They can always wash their car on a day when its not raining, but will they have the time to have it polished and waxed? You can take care of that for them now and give them a discount on the price since the car washing will be ruined as soon as they drive away. I knock 25 or 30 bucks off the price of the full detail to cover the difference in washing it and they are happy. It's all in how you sell it. Sell the services that they can't do themselves when the sun comes out. Their car may need to be washed right after you get done, but at least the swirls will be gone and the car will be beading nicely. :bigups
 
Yep. When I did mobil detailing I used that same type of pitch. Make sure to "sell" the protection and the fact that the shine will still be there when they wash the car again. It drives me up the wall people who wait, and wait, and wait until the rain stops to wash their car so it stays "pretty" for a few more days. In MN, if we wait like that in the winter, you can watch the salt eat through your clear right before your eyes! That is where I sold the "protection" more than the "clenliness" if it's raining.

I either use their garage, or i will tell them to bring it into the shop this time. If that all fails, i will call a marina, and get to work on a boat that is still in the bldg. from the winter.
 
I also think it has to do with what income bracket your client is in. The higher the income, the less they care if it rains or not. We are lucky enough through hard work, 95% of our clients are in the upper income and rarely call to cancel. Our clients know that if they don't call, we show up. I can't tell who many times we have washed cars in drizzle and light rain, pull the car in the garage and make it look showroom clean. Then the client pays us and pulls out in the rain and drives off. Today it was gloomy and showers in the area all day but we still knocked out 11 vehicles, with no cancellations and we DON'T give rain checks, Martin.

BTW I love your site, the home page with all those sweet cars and your truck with name parked right behind them all is the best!

I was thinking the same thing 11 cars? you guys wearing roller blades to move around faster?

I'm wondering are these all full blowen details or combo's? I can do two cars in one day and those are full details but that's rare, I work alone.
 
I've done full interiors and basic washes with a partner and was able to crack out 6 cars in 4 hours. Once you get the process figured out then it goes pretty quick. I'm sure if I had another two guys then we could do more work on the outside and still crack out as many if not more. Its all about how fast you can get the job done with quality.
 
Myself and my business partner use Rainy days to clean-up our trailer, organize our thoughts and business, relax our bodies and minds, and refill tanks and chemical bottles to ready for the next detailing day. We've had a lot of rainy days here in the last couple of weeks in Atlanta. I am looking forward to the dry summer months where we won't have to worry about those pesky thunderstorms!

Yeah but what about if you already have some scheduled? You cancel?
 
Yeah-most of our clients would rather wait till the rain passes... Even the high end customers! So to answer your question, they or we usually cancel and reschedule
