Quit my Job RANT (kinda long)

Tex Star Detail

Formerly TexasTB
OK, so the title says most of it. Here's the story. I'll start from the beginning and try to make it SHORT. I was hired to detail cars. To me, detailing and cleaning is 2 different things......different story. I worked there for a little over a year....got 2 raises....both together equal less than a postage stamp...just take it all back in taxes......I busted my arse.......They built a new car lot, and I was the main man. The only ine in the shop. Not to toot my own horn, but I was good at what I did. I did a good job detailing...well, so called detailing.

After a bit, more and more kept piling on me. The boss put a lift in my shop. I soon was doing oil changes, fix flats, fuel pumps, windows and motors, body parts that had to be replaced, shocks, brakes, belts, tune ups, just everything that wasn't internal engine. It was cool for a bit...I did it with a smile. Then as time went on, it got old. Got no thanks. Got no raises. I also installed GPS tracking devices. My detailing(cleaning) started to suffer. I wasn't putting out as many cars as I wanted to and the boss didn't like it. Wasn't my fault if you ask me. Too much for one guy to do. Too cheap to hire a part timer too.

I worked 6 days a week. from 8AM til sometomes 8PM. depending on the season (income tax) My family life went to heck and back. Couldn't spend time with my wife or kids, ect......Get up, work, get home, eat, shower and sleep....that's what my day consisted of......

Well......I had to half @ss the cars.....we had a $1400 carpet cleaner, but he wanted me to just spraypaint the carpet.... Smokey engine...steam clean it and paint it with clear spray paint.....add no smoke.

any lights on? IE. check engine, airbag, oil pressure....I was told to take out the instrument cluster and either take out the light, or take the overlay off and put electrical tape over the light. HOW SHADY IS THAT!!!!!! There are a ton other things that car dealers do to hide things......TRUST ME...SHADY BUSINESS......take the cars to mechanics if you plan on buying USED......MAKE SURE ALL THE LIGHTS COME ON THE DASH WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTS

I hated doin it.....but it was a job. VERY SHADY car lot. Did not address the customers problems, fix their vehicle. for example....a customer would bring their car back to be fixed...they would half @s it and charge them for a ton of extra crap........

I asked to leave at NOON Monday to get some personal things done. Important thing that could not be done on my 1 hour lunch, or on a SUNDAY when everything was closed....SO...I called in on Tuesday(yesterday). I got to work this morning, and my boss came in the shop all pissed off, asking where I was the other day. I called in....DUH.......remember...all in all...He talked to me like I was one of his kids and treated me like a dog. I don;t give a d@mn if he owns the place or not....I got rude right back.....A HOLE.....words were exchanged, and he told me not to let it happen again OR ELSE, then he turned around an slammed the door on the way out.....

So I packed up my stuff......turned in my time sheet, and headed out.
I'll be d@mned if someone I work for treats me like dirt and talks to me that way.......I may be young...but I have been through to much crap to deal with this......
I can do better

SORRY SO LONG....Had to vent out..........

Most times when one is put to the test it proves to be a god send.

Let us hope that this is the first step in the right direction!!

GOOD LUCK!!

It looks to me like this owner thinks of you as an asset to his business, because if not he probably would have fired you on the spot after the exchanged words. It's his loss, so as cwcad said maybe this is the first step in the right direction. Good luck

Not to sound like I'm into myself...but he did NEED me......He is the owner, His dad, opened it for him...His Dad, has his own lot..I worked there while they built the new lot...that I worked at. They kept asking me if I had a twin. I aked why, and they said because I do good, fast work. I know alot...blah blahblah...I'm glad I busted his ego bubble. Maybe the dollar signs blinded him..I dunno....

Thats even if he's a memebr of the BBB. Is he?

Sorry to hear about the bad experience. I knew the load was getting hard on ya. I know you will have a better experience if you do cars on your own, and will be able to do them at a quality you can really be proud of.

I would think twice about this method of retaliation. Just remember whose hands did the work. You might get the response of why didn't you leave earlier if you were being asked to make immoral business practices. I'm sure if we collectively put our minds to it could do better than this.

With your skill set I'm sure you'll not only have little problem finding work but probably a better job and a pay schedule to match.

At some point in your professional life you will most likely have some level of management oversight.

Remember how you were treated, and don't repeat these mistakes.

It takes some courage to stand up to it, and move on. Good job!

Yep. Plus, if you don't have proof, it's just conjecture. You could mention to the proper authorities that he maybe should be watched for such actions, but I wouldn't recommend out and out accusing.

It really dose sound like you are going to be better off......flipping burgers at one of the major chains has better benefits than what you have just came threw.....The BBB is a good place to go to if he is ripping people off, at least filing a report....If you want to kill him the media is the place but you run the risk of labeling yourself at the same time, its a two edged sword....Sounds like you have allot all around auto experience and someone in your area can use that talent

I'm not goingto do anything about it......leaving was good enough for me. I don't want to keep going back and forth with the matter. I won't stoop to his level....
Now if they hold my last paycheck....that's a whole other can of worms...

As far as proof, all you would have to do is turn the key on and see if the check engine light does not come on.....

Thanks for all the good lucks....I need them

If he dose hold your pay check then I would just say go head and in the same breath, you can tell him your next call is to the BBB and media....you can bet that your check will arrive shortly...no business owner wants to hear those..good luck to you and keep us all posted
