quickest way to remove clear coat

my clearcoat has failed. i want to know what is the quickest way to remove the remaing clearcoat from the paint. i'll be experimenting with wet sanding, trying to restore the paint. so far i'm using 2000 grit sandpaper to get the clearcoat off but its taking a while.
 
Just removing the clear is going to be a long, and difficult task. Only 2 ways to remove it, chemically or mechanically. Basically, a clear stripper or sanding. It's very likely the basecoat under the clear will also need to be repainted.



If your goal is to turn your clearcoat resin system paint into a single stage paint without repainting I think your going to be very disappointed. The composition of a single stage basecoat is different from the composition of a basecoat under a clear.



To be done correctly the car needs to be repainted.
 
I'm going to have to agree 100% with ShowroomL. You need to get it repainted.



Clear also adds a lot of depth and shine to the paint. You'll notice a huge difference without it.
 
Also, if you were to be thinking about repainting the clear, it is not going to bond well to the previously cleared color coat.



You will need to strip all the paint, reprimer, and repaint, then reclear.



I painted my rims not to long ago, and used aircraft stripper to remove all the paint. It was a quick and easy task. Just becareful where it gets on, it doesn't take long at all before the paint starts to peel.
