quick question for you Zaino guys

The only difference between them and you is education. Telling them that Zaino is inferior is like telling Mike Phillips, Scottwax, rjstaaf, etc that Meguiar's is inferior. You won;t change their mind.

So what is the resolution? Educate the uneducated. Instead of trying to change their mind on the product they currently use, change their mind on the surface preparation. As it's been said on this board many times, "Surface preparation is everything". Teach these car nuts that preparation is just as important than the end product used.

99% of the time you're only opening yourself to a flaming if you go into a forum trying to change the current influence of that particular forum.

I think the majority of the "zealot" attitude that many of you experience is due to your attempt to change the thinking of a particular group. Looks what happens to anyone that has a difference of opinion in this forum. The majority of the time, that person is hung up by the scruff of their neck and torched like Joan of Arc. All of this because their opinion didn't jive with rest of the groups. This is what happens in the car forums.

If it be with Zaino, Meguiars, Einszett, .... or Turtle Wax, these guys and gals just want their car to look phenominal. So why not educate them on how to prepare the surface instead of trying to change their mind. Perhaps after being educated they may stick with what they are currently using or take your advice.

Just a thought,

David

I agree 100%, thats why I dont go to other forums for their Detail Section unless its to look at other peoples cars or to post some of mine.

I dont' see why you find it humerous. Zaino is a good product, proven many times over. Just because a group of people are fanatical about it doesn't make it amusing.

I'm sure plenty of people find a board about detailing (exclusively) amusing. I would if I didn't understand the gratification I get from having a clean car.

If you noticed in my thread I stated that IMO Zaino is nothing short of an awesome product. It's a product i've used and will continue to use, but I know it's not the only product out there, esp. if I want to remove swirls instead of hiding them, etc. Each situation has a different way to attack it.

exactly what i'm trying to teach them

I did the Zaino thing a couple of years ago and found out that it only highlighted how bad my paint was. The key thing for me was that Zaino would not stain all the rubber moulding on my car. In the meantime, I jumped on a bunch of bandwagons for other products hyped here. All of them had their benefits, but none of them gave me the look and feel of Zaino which I really liked. In the process of trying these other products, I spent a little more time on the prep. This paid off as I recently dragged out those old bottles of Zaino to give it another shot. My paint may not be up to Autopian standards, but a couple of coats of Z5 made it acceptable. A layer of Z2 has my neighbors stopping by to ask me what I use.

I would never recommend Zaino to the "weekend washer", however, anyone who wants to spend one weekend a year getting their paint right, Zaino is a great product that will keep your paint slick and shiney with very little effort.

I used to think zaino was the greatest stuff too. This was back when I had a new car, fresh off the lot, non-dealer prepped. I clayed it and zaino'd often. My paint looked good, cuz it was maintained well.

Then there was a period where my car cleaning craze disappeared, and then the haziness and swirls started appearing. Zaino doesn't do much for this as I found out myself. Some reading and research led me to learn the ways of proper paint prep.

I am fortunate to have eyes that see that zaino, as durable and shiny as it is, doesn't do a thing for paint correction. I am hoping these car forum guys will see this just as I finally did.

edit: I must say though, that zaino would be my product of choice for family members' cars that dont get as much attention. Damn it lasts long.

Just for the record I think I am pretty open minded when it comes to the products I use.

Take a look at the bottles on the left on the bottom shelf with the black spray heads, anyone recognize those :)

Take a look at the picture below up in the right hand corner on the top shelf, anyone recognize those two little black boxes with the ribbon on them. Also, you might see a few big Zs behind all those tan bottles.

LOL, good post Flux. I've always been amazed at how some people obsess over the way OTHER people obsess about Zaino. :)

It's like, "Hey, wow! Look at those Zaino Zealots!"

I have alot of other products in my collection, including NXT Wax, NXT Booster, NXT Wash and a few other Meguiar's products but, as you know, I'm not riding that wagon.

I actually use everything that I have in those cabinets on a regular basis including the Zaino. Just got the VM/EX-P to try out and was hoping to use it this weekend but, the weather didn't cooperate.

Be glad to take the NXT off your hands ;)
