When applying product by hand, use up and down OR side to side motions, not circular, as I was taught by my dad back in the day.

I want to start my car out fresh and swirl free, but don't have a PC yet, so everything is gonna be by hand. And there's a chicago Meet and Greet on Sunday, and I want my car to not be all swirled.

I plan on doing the following to my car:

Dawn wash

Clay

Wash again

AIO

Scratch X for bigger scratches

Meguires #9 for swirls

and topped off with as many coats of Z2/ZFX that I can apply in that short time.

Do I need to remove the AIO/Meg #9 before the Z application? Or can I just layer it on top of the other stuff?

Deanski just today posted this thread which you'll want to read. He talked with Sal, who says a wash should follow all polishes before going to Z. See details in Deanski's thread.

WRXemALL- $0.02 from a fellow WRX owner (just did it last week) who HAS NOT used Zaino (so maybe it's only worth $0.01 :D).

To save time, clay while you wash. See the thread on "do you dry before you clay". I would NOT use the AIO as a prep for Z, and definitely don't use it BEFORE your abrasives. If you can, get something a little stronger than the #9. I had good results with PI-III MG (and I did some areas on the WRX by hand just to experiment). It does NOT leave any fillers, so it should work well with your Z.

I don't have time for a search right now, but there have been threads on using AIO as a base for Z. THe users reported good results. So I would say that if you are going to use AIO at all, I would use it before Z, and after #9. But as suggested earlier, you may want something stronger than #9 for swirl removal. Then AIO should remove the fillers and oils that #9 leaves behind.

the only reason that I am gonna use #9 is because it's the only product that I can find locally, @ Murray's auto suplpy. Unless someone knows of somewhere I can find it in the local chicagoland area.

I know I'm gonna be near a store that sells DACP tomorrow, I might just stop in there and see if they have #m also. . .
