Questions about the Turtle Wax Platinum line

Well I tried the waffle weave towel, not too absorbent like you warned me about. The second one is going back to Big Lots. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Did my wife's silver minivan with the platinum wax and finished it with the detailer. The wax does indeed have some mild cleaning agents too it, pulled bug splatter off without much fuss along with a few other mystery blemishes. Easy on / easy off, topped it with the detailer - pretty happy overall.

I believe both Mosca and Alex Ruiz have used it and wrote honest, favorable reviews with nice write ups and pictures. Those are two well respected members who test many over the counter products. Both Bence and Alfisti (posters in this thread) are also respected members who wouldn't say something false about their experiences with products.

Seth, thank you, and I agree! Objectivity is the key.

Louie, try applying a second coat in 24hours. Also I'd refrain from using the QD to finish it off as the look of the wax is far better than the QD. Some QDs are neutral in appearance - this one is not. It has its own *look*, which is excellent for a QD, but inferior to the wax. That's another reason I suggest to re-wax...you won't get to appreciate the great look it's produced.

As a separate point to consider, I personally avoid QDing a freshly waxed finish as most QDs contain alcohol and other solvents, which IMO, remove some of the wax resulting in poorer appearance and durability. This is especially true of carnauba waxes. With sealants one should not get it wet for several hours after application while it's curing, as this can effect durability. Again, IMO, QDing can effect durabilty if performed too soon.

Just some thoughts to consider. :)

As Paul said, I experienced far better durability with 3 fully cured coats. The look was still excellent well over the one month mark. Slickness was down, but the appearance didn't suffer at all. Ah, and it works very well with EGP.

Shame, that we in Europe don't get the paste and the QD.

there are several autopians who stand out for offering objective views on products- Alex Ruiz, Scott, Spilchy and Bence are just a few of the many good posters here.

I got the idea that the guy that said he doesn't take advice on detailing products over the internet meant that he believes that people who automatically say Souveran is the best because it's more expensive just don't want to admit that a $3 wax can compete. How's THAT for a run on!?

I am from Hawaii and was just in Vegas last week. While browsing through Big Lots, I saw the liquid Platinum Wax for $3.00 and I know that back home I would have to pay at least $8.50, so.....

I bought 4 bottles!! The product produces an incredible shine but I do notice that it is not that durable. The Hawaiian sun and rain the next day will kill most waxes. My car hasn't looked this shiny in years! No powdery residue either, although it is a little hard to buff off with a MF towel. One of the best deals I've ever had on a car care product.

Too bad I then proceeded to lose a bunch of money on the damn slot machines!

Lets face it Turtle Pug is outstanding for looks. Thats why I wax my car is for looks . I think that Turtle Pug, Nano,Fx, and Nxt are tops for looks . All 4 will give you that wet look. Its only a matter which one you like to use. I myself use a lot of QDs The shine may not last long but what a shine. I qd maybe once or twice a week , and my dark green car looks like its dipped in oil .Right now my favorette qd is Nano spray wax, It hides the light swirls and scratches and realy makes the paint pop. FX and Turtle are very close , but Nano gets the cigar.

IMHO, TWPUG blows away NXT. Application and removal is easier, it stains less, it's brighter & glossier (versus the dark look of NXT), and it looks better for a longer period of time (I hesitate to use the word durable).

I agree.... ;)

I guess I posted that judgement before, but being turtle wax a lot of people are afraid to even think about it. NXT, however, has stronger cleaners and nicer smell......

By the way, welcome to the forums.

Reviving an old thread... How long would TWPUG last if I put three layers on the car (not garaged)? I know it's hard question, since it depends on conditions. For example, how would 3 layers of TWPUG compare to 1 layer of Collinite 845?

Mike, I haven't tried Collinite, but I can pass onto you that the test applicaton of TWPUG on my car's roof is doing well after two months. Slickness is substantially diminished, but still beading and washes clean after every wash. :woot2:

The single layer of #845 will still last longer, and not by a small amount. However, as Paul (Alfisti) comments, you can get 2 months out of the TWPUG.

Okay, that's good. I just got my Collinite 476S that I ordered two days ago, and waxed my Acura Vigor yesterday. The shine really isn't that impressive, but if it can provide me with the durability I need, I will gladly accept it.

Can you really effectively layer TWPUG since it has cleaners in it? I have used this stuff before and was amazed at the shine that I got from it. I think that 2 layers of NXT Paste topped w/ #26 is a lot deeper, but I might try 2 layers of TWPUG next time topped with #26. I really like the deepness of the #26 as a topper.

Just tried TWPUG past last night. Wow, I really like the look of this stuff. Made my black super shiny and reflective. Im still a noob and can only compare to Natty's blue and NXT paste. I still prefer the natty's on my black truck but I like the look provided by TWPUG much better than the NXT and gold class. THe best part is I got the TWPUG for 8 bucks at my local target...at that price I can't see myself not using this stuff more often. Great product.
