Questions about the Turtle Wax Platinum line

When I went to Big Lots in search of a cheap tire cleaner I came across some Turtle Wax Platinum wax and spray detailer. I got two bottles of the spray detailer because it was only $3 but then I read the back and it says that it has wax and it implies that there are swirl fillers in there. On my car I only have UPP on it right now so I was wondering if I used the detailer would I still be able to layer the UPP or will the wax cause adherence problems? Then I'm also thinking of getting the wax because it was also $3 but I have a ton of stuff already so I was wondering what your opinions are. I might not use it on my car but when I wax my dad's car I usually use a one step. I did a search and it seems no one has talked about it for quite a few months so is it any good? Thanks.

I agree...TWPUG looks fantastic, but has poor duarbility. But at that price, its ease of use, and light cleaners (get some layering), I'd get some...in fact I did! :)

Also the spray detailer is brilliant (just make sure you shake it well before each use). It really adds something to most colours, depending on LSP. Great on #16, which is a bit boring to me.

+1. The spray detailer does seem to add a nice boost though if used with the wax.

TW PUG is a excellent wax . If you rated wax on a scale of 1 to 100 , it would be up there with NXT,Nano, and Mothers FX. The rateings would be between 92 and 98

Meaning? Enlighten us. I'm curious.

Why? Because it's Turtle Wax? Or that you don't believe / trust those that have used it when they compare it to the other over the counter products out there?

I believe both Mosca and Alex Ruiz have used it and wrote honest, favorable reviews with nice write ups and pictures. Those are two well respected members who test many over the counter products. Both Bence and Alfisti (posters in this thread) are also respected members who wouldn't say something false about their experiences with products.

For the money they provide excellent visual results but lack in long term durability. Nothing not to trust based on that, especially for $3.

I've used Turtle Wax platinum on at least 5 different vehicles. Post up if you have any specific questions.

Why exactly did you read this thread? I'd be willing to bet that if someone took TWUG and put it in a jar of Zymol, Pinacle signature or another boutique wax most people wouldn't know the difference based on its initial look.

I'll duck the flying arrows and mention that I also went into Big Lots and picked up the same quick Turtle Wax Platinum detailer and wax, couldn't resist the $2.99 price. Also picked up a couple of their waffle weave pocketed towels, a couple sheepskin wash mitts, and a TW microfiber glove (for reaching the lower corners of my inside windows).

Heard lots of good things about their Platinum wax, I figured that I would be the judge personally. Plan on using it tomorrow, I wax once a month anyway not too worried about durability.

just to chime in. the initial look is fantastic. but after a week or two will wash away in tropical conditions. trying to spitshine it right now and have applied 3 layers over the past 4 days to see if that helps. its loss some depth but is far darker and glossier than #26.

for $3 its definitely worth a shot. i got mine my paste for $12 and still think its a good OTC product.

Unlike Mr. "23 post, I've never tried it, but I hate it" quoted above, I HAVE used TurtleWax Platinum Series Products (Paste Wax, Liquid Wax, Detailer).

The Detailer is my current detailer, and this stuff is the best I have ever used. I recommend it. :)

The Paste wax is good, the Liquid is also good. The ease of use is very good, just don't let it dry too long. Durability was fine for me, and I do live in a tropical climate. I am currently using S-100, but that doesn't detract from the quality of TW Platinum waxes that I have used. The wax leaves the car looking very nice.

OTC products means you use your dollars to buy product, NOT pay for shipping. I live in the 808, so shipping can be expensive (last 2 items I had shipped to me cost $50 & $35 via UPS Ground).

Peace.

I would say go back and get more.... before Mothers introduced the 2005 line, I considered TWPUG wax the BEST available OTC. Extremely easy to apply and remove, very mild cleaners, and a killer look! Durability is mediocre, but many of its retail rivals are not any better in this regards (nanowax and NXT) If you don't mind waxing every 3 weeks, and your finish is in good condition, this one will make you happy. As downside, it stains plastic so don't let it touch it for to long. As a matter of fact, between this one and the hyper-hyped S100, I would take the TWPUG without thinking too much.

The detailer is also really nice. Mediocre lubricity, decent slickness, but again, the look is what makes the product great. Very nice smell, decent protection, killer look.

The tire dressing is another sleeper. Very close to Mothers FX in look and application. It is advertised as "very shiny" but it is nowhere close to NXT inzane shine... in fact, TWPUG looks too close to other very well regarded products ;) I don't like aerosols, but it didn't stop me form trying and liking the spray pattern.

The car wash is my main wash. Decent smell, decent lubricity (NXT has more), water softener agents that make the suds last and last and prevent too much spotting. What makes it special in my eyes is the amount of cleaning power, which I find perfect. It will tacke very dirty jobs, yet is is gentle on the LSP (kills slickness though). Unlike Meguiars whose car wash is one of the worst for their wax, TW wash is one of the best matches for their wax.

The leather one-step is almost as good as mothers reflections.

However, I think that maybe the best product in the PUG line is the interior protectant. Again, billed as very shiny, it is perfect for light, gray or tan interiors. Very close to armor all low shine. Not greasy at all, spreads very easily, lasts a few weeks. Nice deep look, but a little too shiny in dark interiors. Use it as combo with Sonüs cockpit detailer and there is no interior you can't make look as factory.

Someone mentioned that maybe TW got some chemists from Mothers or Meguiars, I think that also management allowed the team to work more in the product performance, and it is noticeable the improvement over their older products. The platinum line is miles ahead of the old TW products. Yes, they are still mainstream products, and the cost savings can be perceived immediately in the smell. However, performance alone, they can go head to head with the best in retail, and give a scare to more than a few boutique products....

Do a search and find old reviews.

 :lol

Sad but true....

I don't think there would be any problems with adding more UPP over the TW QD, because any carnauba that is on the paint will probably be dissolved by the solvents when you apply another layer of UPP.

If you haven't used the waffle weave towel, DO NOT EVEN TRY!! Return it It sucks big time. It is like a water magnet, but the towel is in the same pole than the water (yes, it repels water). Looks very nice, it is well constructed but the project manager should have been fired. Who in his/her right mind would give directions for a drying towel to be 100% polyester It felt that way when I got it, but knowing that some towels have a ramp up period, I thought this could be the same..... No luck. Use that money to get another bottle of detailer.

The mitt is good, but the drying towel is a joke (The towel is NOT part of the platinum line, fortunately.....)

I echo Mr. Ruiz's comments about the Turtle Wax Platinum Detail Spray. Not exactly the one you'll reach for if you want high lubricity or strong cleaning power. It's perhaps more of a watered-down "Wax-As-U-Dry" really. I like the scent, and it does leave a nice glow to the paintwork. There is an Advanced Auto Parts store about 2 miles from me that actually had this product on their "Clearance" shelf for $1 a bottle! They had a dozen bottles left and I bought them all - best $12 (plus tax) I ever spent.
