Questions about the Metavo PE12-175 polisher

I have a first generation Metabo polisher and I am very content with it and its size. I recently purchased a Mikita varible speed polisher to replace the Dewalt VS polisher I used for many years.

I was thinking about buying another Metabo polisher and retiring my old one for someone to use for practicing with. What I like is the size of the Matavo polisher small and eronomic ,but torky enough to stand up to do a perfessional job. I have like everyone else a dual action Porter Cable polisher also first generation. but I don't use it much.

I noticed the size has changed for the Metavo polisher , not sure if any other difference have occured or been added. IS this a waste of my time to purchase and would I be duplicating what The Mikita already has ,are they too "close" in performance and size?

I now the mikita weight is 6.6 pounds what is the weight of the Metabo PE12-175 some times I like the feel of a smaller polisher to work with.Where is a good source for buying one at a reasonible price? I would like to hear some good arugments for and against this machine polisher.

Thanks Again Fellow Detailers

I don't think I've seen one for less than about $235. The following thread has some more Metabo info and one member lists the source, I think it was AllProTools:

If you find a "killer" deal out there be sure to post back for the rest of us thinking about picking one up.

All Pro tools gave me the best price $233.00 plus shipping so I ordered the Metavo PE12-175 through them. I asked them what the differences were from the first generation. A better motor and ergonamic design same speed configuation speed dial is on top did away with the wrenches and have a spindle lock for mounting the backing plate and pad .

If anyone wants to buy a like new Dewalt VS polisher let me know. I keep care of my equipment and would like to give it to someone at a fare market value or exchange for some high tech foam pads.

Well the shipping was quick from ALL PRO TOOLS. I received my Metabo PE 12-175 polisher this morning less backing plate which I do not think was encluded ,but will check. The polisher is way bigger than my old first generation Metabo polisher, so the new motor must of taken more space to fit in the chassie , hence the longer housing and new design.

I am ancious to test the polisher against two other rivles at my disposal the Mikata VS and the Dewalt VS the dewalt weighting in as the heavest of the polishers and the first to adapt black and deckers computer speed control.

I would like to test all three polishers but need some criteria to judge equally their performance , handling and comfort. any ideas would be welcome.

I have a question about this Metabo PE12-175...I rarely use the machine, but today I wanted to, so I started the power and I got it running. For some odd reason that I forgot, I decided to press the red button on the top of the polisher, while the machine was turned on. I read after that I should not do this. Nevertheless, I put a pad onto the polisher, and started polishing. To my amazement, with the slightest of pressure on the pad, the pad itself will stop spinning but the spindle will keep on spinning, as if the machine is in "neutral" and not in gear. Any idea how to get the machine back in "gear" so that it can work properly again?
