Questions about ONR in winter on dirty car???

Well you can get like 10 Chinchilla towels for the price of that one towel...

Well, you can probably get like 10 Camaro SS cars for the price of an Aventador too. :D

While I will agree they are very expensive, they also require a special machine to make them, or so I'm told. It's hard to tell from a picture but they are unique in construction. Their price is also in line with some of the Micro Fiber Madness towels, which are also very nice.

I'll have to check them out in person if I can find a physical store that carries them. Places that stock Griots never stock their towels from what I've experienced.

I was thinking of picking some of those up, glad to hear you like them.

On a side note, my 845 came in today, almost frozen from transport, it's a high of about 7F today. Being as we have 3 month old the bottle warmer made quick work of liquefying the product. I'm just waiting for it to warm up outside a bit. If it's above 25 outside my attached garage is usually around 40+

ride92- If there's a "plug" of semi-solid wax in the neck of the bottle, push it down into the rest of the product and shake shake shake some more. Good thinking on the bottle warmer!

Use *VERY* little product; most people use a zillion times too much. If that bottle doesn't last you at least 5 years (let's say you're doing lots of huge vehicles, otherwise it oughta last longer than that) then something's very wrong. 845 is also great on exterior black plastic trim, but I'd use the wipe-on-wipe-off method rather than the usual "let it haze until it passes the finger-swipe test" method.

52split- Thanks for posting that link. Being so MF-lint-paranoid I can't help but wonder if that "plush WW" construction will lead to (earlier than usual) lint issues. Sure *sounds* like a good thing though!

RaskyR1- I was gonna post a "you can buy.." response too :D Any concerns about the "unsplit loops" not being gentle enough or not wicking as well?

Accumulator:
Your idea of using ONR AFTER a touchless car wash is great. One reason is that touchless car washes DO NOT (or cannot) remove the "film" from road salt "binders" or ice pre-treaters made from sugar beet juice being used by government municipal highway and road maintenance departments for snow removal and ice melting.

I wipe down my car with a waffle-weave microfiber towel immediately after exiting a touchless car wash to remove any water not blown off by the dryers to prevent streaking and freezing in the door jams. It's ALWAYS a dirty towel when I'm done wiping. Yes, I know I may impart swirls into my paint, but that's just something I am willing to live with during the (long) winter in Northeast Wisconsin to remove the salt from my vehicle. We are in the midst of an Artic outbreak here, with Canadian Clipper weather systems producing minor snows every 3 days. Needless to say, the road crews drop ALOT of salt and binders to melt the snow to prevent it from turning to ice. We now have a Midwest state with the largest collection of vehicles wearing their winter Ermine White.

Lonnie- Yeah, my father ran his beater through the local carwash, and I was able to minimize the damage and improve the results by doing little tweaks like that. Even at the swirl-o-matic, having the Drying Crew spray on some rinseless (actually a QD, this was back before ONR/etc. came out), and also having them use my towels, made for a little improvement. They were always happy to do it since Dad gave 'em a little tip.

Hey, just remembered- if you ever want some of my M16/476S just PM me, still nice and cheap :D

I believe the fibers are still split like normal MF towels, they are just looped rather then open ended. I can dry my full size Ram 1500 with one of those towels. :)

Washing and drying MF towels - MF towels are made from polymers with transitional melt temperatures above 400 deg. F. Since hot water from most taps is around 120 deg F., you can wash in hot water just fine. Same for drying...a dryers temperature is no where near a point that would negatively affect the towel. Just saying.

Yup, just don't over dry the fibers where they create static.

When using ONR with a microfiber wash mitt, the mitt turns brown from pulling the dirt off the paint. Problem is, you cant rub the brown off by rubbing it on the grit guard. Is this a ONR thing or is all rinseless washes like this? Maybe its referred to as stained wash media?

I'm typically able to wash all that out of my wash it.., I spray with OPC at the end of my wash session and let it sit for a while before washing.

I have read here that staining towels is a common 'issue' with ONR. All of the MF towels I've used with ONR are stained no matter how I've soaked or washed them. These are white WW 'stayfree' towels I got years ago at WM. Inexpensive but practical for the application. I've continued to use them and they continue to do the job fine.

I am planning to switch to DG rinseless* and I have also read here that DG does not stain towels like ONR. (note: it would be interesting to switch to a nappy MF wash mitt an see how it performs)

Don't get me wrong, I've used ONR for a few years now and feel that it's a great product....but my towels are stained and it doesn't wash out. (Note: I have only soaked/washed in 'regular' APC and wash soap like Era and Purex - I never tried bleaching as I felt (right or wrong) that this might be too harsh on the towel fibers.)

*My intention to switch to DG rinseless is merely because I've come to use and really appreciate many of their other products and their prices are very good.

I left a white MF in my bucket of IUDJ for a while (OK, for a *long* while..) and it's permanently stained purple. But I don't seem to get the "stained with dirt" effect with IUDJ, not that I use it on many truly dirty surfaces.
