Questions about Menzerna FMJ

Had about a 2 year absence from this board as i have moved. looking for a new synthetic to try. i have always wanted to try fmj and i see now that some distributors are no longer carrying it. in addition, in a related site i see menzerna has gone to another form of IDing their product line and FMJ doesn't seem to be included. also, i read manzerna didn't make FMJ, it was made here locally. Soooooo, whats the story? is FMJ still recommended by you guys who have used it in the past. Is it still being made ? i curently use Klasse, have no problem with it, but would just like to try something else.

thanks

Still use it fairly regularly. Very easy to use, leaves the surface very slick, and have re-detailed cars about 5 months apart in a salt air environment, near the coast in Nova Scotia, and still ahd really good beading after a wash.

IIRC the big complaint about FMJ was that it didn't last. If you're happy with Klasse, you should give the nano version a try, Jeff's Werkstatt Acrylic Jett Trigger, which is a spray-on, wipe off.

The other big thing of the last couple of years is the Wipe On, Walk Away sealants (WOWA), which are Optimum Opti-Seal, Zaino Clear Seal, and Ultima Paint Guard Plus.

Another sealant getting a lot of play is Finish Kare 1000P, which is a paste. There's also some sort of Blackfire sealant, but that comes out of the same corner as the FMJ.

Used FMJ regularly in the past and found it was an easy on, easy off product that gives a really slick finish. But as has been mentioned longevity is questionable.

Something like Blackfire sealent will give a similar look with better durability as the most recent formula is Polycharged.

I had a four year run with FMJ and really liked it. I would still recommend it over all but I am not going to live and die by it as I once would have. I recently tried a sample of Blackfire and liked it well enough to return my FMJ and buy the Blackfire. It is not as lick as FMJ right out of the gate, but seems to be a better product with more durability. The look is more consistent after a few washes than FMJ which I would normally reapply to boost protection. That being said, another synthetic I really like and highly recommend is Collinite 845. Very easy on/off and great durability.

Also, the others are correct. FMJ is not made by Menzerna, it is licensed through CMA and made here in the states (I would guess by Four Star, not sure though). Some vendors do not carry it because they market their own brand, ie. Wolfgang. Blackfire and FMJ were very similar, still may be, but Blackfire has had a few improvements over the past two years, and FMJ has not.

FMJ is still the best looking sealant I've tried. I've never had a problem with longevity, as long as it's applied to a bare, freshly-prepped surface. The only issue I've had with it recently is it's apparent incompatibility with other products, or in my case, Optimum. Topping FMJ with Opti-Seal, OCW, or even OID results in some pretty bad streaking which won't go away until you strip the layers of wax down completely, and only apply either FMJ or the Optimum products. Disappointing for sure, especially since I loved this stuff.

Go with Blackfire, looks great - easy to use and plays very well if you want to top with a wax. I tried the sealant and the wax, both are top shelf - with the wax being like Souveran with better duribility.
