questions about blackfire wet diamond

Dave's right bout that LC Gold pad, but I use 20x as much BFWD as he does and I still have have no issues with wiping it off. But that's just me, I am a bit heavy handed with product, maybe that's why I have had issues with some of the more finicky ones. But you won't go wrong with BFWD, it's "junebug" proof!

Exactly. I mean, there is nothing wrong with applying a thin layer and it is the preferred and correct way to do it, but even when I get it a bit heavy in areas, I have never had a problem with removal.

In other words, the importance of applying a thin layer with BFWD is not nearly as high as when applying something like OS or UPGP for example.

Thanks. I guess I thought I would need to strip the old sealant (NXT on top of Sonus LSP) before the M205 and that the BFWD Polish would remove any M205 residue...

Sometimes the M205 oils are simply amazing...KAIO didn't come close to getting them out! But other products either conceal them or, soak 'em up or, well...I dunno what happens but it turns out OK. No idea how the BF stuff would work, give it a try and see.

I'll follow the advice as it makes more sense now that you say it but could you expand on what you mean by super-shampoo and prep wash? Should I switch from using the Gold Class wash when doing this?

The GC/etc. won't do it IME, no matter how strong you mix it. By "super shampoo" I mean either a Dawn wash, or, preferably, the alkaline step of a decontamination system. Heh heh, if you ever use AutoInt's "A" you'll see what I mean by "super shampoo"!

would it be wrong or produce crappy results to skip the BFWD polish? what if you just did #205->IPA->BFWD sealant?

Might cut down on the "darkening/richening" effect, at least if it works the same as the older BF stuff I've used. Note that *that* might not be a bad thing in some cases...

You gonna be the first?

Nope!

Haven't used Zaino in years. Even when I did, the most I ever had was 3 layers.

I always thought it was crazy to see guys making posts about how they just finished their 15th coat of Zaino.....or more!

Thanks for all the replies. Just got the BFWD Shine Kit from ProperAutoCare. It included lot's of BFWD propaganda on a CD. They claim the polish adds a brightening and wetting effect for all colors that the sealant will lock in. It's closer to a paint cleaner/glaze than a polish. I'm still gonna do the IPA after M205 to be safe. It also stressed the 8hrs between sealant coats to ensure bonding, and to make sure the sealant dries properly to haze before removal. There actually was much more information about thier products and all the various application methods and tips than I would have expected. Now I just hope that I can get results that are just a bit better than the packaging and marketing... :)

Are you guys applying BFWD with microfiber or foam (by hand)?

I've always used foam, but I applied some today and noticed that the instructions say to use a terry cloth or microfiber applicator, so I used a MF applicator this time and it seemed to work better. It allowed me to apply the product thinner and more evenly.

Let me say that I LOVE BFWD and have always had good results with it. However, this past week I detailed my brand new M-B C300 (Black). When I was done polishing and prepping, I applied 2 coats of BFWD within about an hour of one another, wiped it off, let it sit for the weekend and then applied a coat of Dodojuice Purple Haze, let it haze over and wiped off. Everything went on and came off well and the car looked great. However, a day later I looked at it in the sun and there was a haze on the paint. Uh oh. So I pulled out a clean MF and wiped it down. Everything wiped smoothly but was still leaving streaks- almost like I was pushing the product around. Any ideas what I did wrong here?

No ideas on what I possibly did wrong here guys?

Somewhat educated guess from somebody who's never used either LSP:

The coats of BFWD might've been too close together, leading to delayed-onset hazing. And/or that kind of thing might've been exacerbated by the wax, which might not've bonded to the sealant as well as one might've expected (especially if the sealant layers were still letting off whatever caused the hazing).

I've had some sealants (the old BF was one of 'em too) that took a surprisingly long time to really dry (cure?) and doing something else too soon would make any issues a lot worse.

I'd have to see it to make a more educated guess. I never get streaking with BF. Even with solid black on very humid days, but I also don't apply 2 back to back coats either. 1 very thin one. Even when I did 1 panel at a time I stil didn't get any.

Thanks everyone. I agree, I probably should've waited between coats of BFWD. I did wait about 2 days before applying the Dodojuice so by then it would've cured.
