Question: Footprint of Pad vs Tool Speed

Greetings

Was curious, does the "footprint" of a pad increase as the speed of the tool increases? In other words, if one were to hold the tool perfectly still, would the "polishing area" be smaller than it would if the rotation/orbit speed was increased?

Thanks

No. Foot print will remain virtually the same as the offset is fixed. However, on the DA as speed increases the random orbit motion changes from a smooth looping moment to more of a sharp/abrupt direction change. This is often why slower speed are desired for finishing. You can thank the great Kevin Brown for illustrating this back in the day when the whole KBM method came to light.

Thanks Rasky!

I remember seeing those a couple of years back. But it didn`t occur to me to try and go back to find those. :( Maybe I didn`t think one had to do with the other? :)

Well, looks like I got my answer!! Thanks guys
