Question about polishing/waxing after body work

L&I Detailing

One of my cars is going to be getting some body work done it got hit from behind and will be getting a new bumper and some paint. Its also extremely long overdue for a good detail just havent had the time been working nonstop. But am looking to do it soon just forget what the typical wait period is before waxing after fresh paint its somewhere between 30-90 days correct?

Thanks,
Austin

Current 2 part paints can be waxed/polished a lot quicker than that. I recently re cleared a spoiler with a 2 part urethane Sikkens and was polishing 24 hours later, per the mfr and body shop recommendation. It glossed perfect.

Your best bet is always check with the paint manufacturer. Most will recommend between 30 to 90 days.

That said, I have spoke with several chemists from paint companies and they have told me that those recommendations are based on recommendations from the old days and nobody has really bothered to go through and change it. Several have told me you can wax/seal with in a couple days of painting, no problem.

However I would still go with the manufacturers official recommendations just to be safe.

my old car was sprayed a couple years back and I was told 30 days. definitely check with the shop / paint manufacturer though

chances are you'll need to 1 step the painted areas anyway since most body shops will leave you some holograms unfortunately.

i had my m/c and a helmet 2 stage painted over a year and a half ago and and it was safe to detail the next day. i was surprised, but i've had zero problems since.

Some new paints coming out say you can wax in a few days. Always check with the paint shop and the manufacturer also.
