question about pads

What gives a pad it's destination(cutting, polishing, finishing)? I mean usually finishing pads are softer (less firm), and polishing pads are more firm? what gives the pad his attribute? it's firmness? or the pors in the sponge?

I don;t know if i'm being coerent....

I think the firmness of the material, and also the cell structure. I don't know if the chemical composition of the foam is any different or not.

I see. Because I have a kit arrived along with the polisher, and I didn't see any other pads, so i don't know how they should be.

Tell us what color they are, and who made them, and we'll tell you which is for what......

This is it. They are made in England. anyway, that's where they came along with my polisher (bought from ebay). I have another blue, and a wool bonnet.

Finishing pads are soft and not very dense. Cutting pads are dense and firm. Open-cell pads are often better at fast cutting IIRC. Wool pads are used for heavy cutting because the fibers themselves cause the pad to cut fast.
