Question about Blackfire Deep Gloss Spray

Ok guys, I need an non-biased opinion. Is Zaino leather treatment any good? I am trying to help some dim wit with his 2001 Pontiac FireHawk leather because he says it's cracking and he is using Zaino leather treatment every weekend.

What "should" he be using, arn't Pontiac's leather seats clear coated? I don't have much experience with that type of interior, I am more of a cloth man (not by choice).

Thanks ahead of time.

I believe you should take a look at this thread

http://www.autopia-carport.com/forum/showthread.php3?s=&threadid=8526

It shows gmblack's experience with leatherique, EXCELLENT product at softening leather and lessening the appearance of cracked leather (especially in GM vehicles :down ). I found that Zaino Z10 did soften my leather but marginally. The smell was ok, but smelled artificial. I say go for leatherique :xyxthumbs .

"Cracking" leather and wrinkles are very different things. I suspect he is talking about wrinkles. For the most part you are going to get a few winkles here and there with regular use, it's one of the realities of a leather interior. Once they are there you are not going to totally remove them, but you can help mask them. Leatherique does a pretty good job, but is not cheap.

i've only used a couple of leather treatments. zaino and eagle one. i bought the eagle one on the recommendations on this site and thought it did an okay job. the zaino stuff i liked a lot more. it seemed to soften the leather better and i actually like the smell. i think it smells like baseball glove leather. of the two, i prefer zaino, but i haven't tried leatherique yet either.

I have had good experience with the EO leather treatment. I actually found it to be better than Lexol as far as making the leather soft. It seems to go into the leather a little better and last longer..

I like Zaino leather in a bottle on all interior plastic parts plus the leather seats.

Leatherique as SL states works but is $$.

To those who have used Leatherique, what do you think about using it once and maintaining regularly with a more affordable cleaner and conditioner?

Hey puter,

You are exactly right. I don't use Leatherique very often, I would go broke. hehe. On most cars I do it just once a year (twice a year max) and then use something like Eagle One or Lexol for the "normal" stuff. :up

I use the Leatherique every now and then, and maintain with the EO cleaner and conditioner. On the Honda's clear coated leather, I use 303 in lieu of the EO. Works like a charm so far (been using this combo for about 5 months). Leatherique did a miraculous job on the Accord's leather, which was in shambles (shame on Honda for such shoddy leather).

Wow guys, thanks for the responses. Now I can pretend I am smart and give this guy my game plan:

Leatherique once every 4 months.

Eagle One once every week (this guy like to use something everyweekend)

303 in between Eagle One to keep the shine going....

Lexol leather conditioner on my GM black leather. The Z28 is a 95 model with 37K. After I treat the leather with Lexol on day 1 I follow the next day with 303 aerospace protectant. Weekly I wipe the seat with a very damp rag to remove any body oils that my have contacted the leather ( take special note of side boosters and seat bottoms in the summer). Using this protocol over the last 7 years has rendered my seats crack and fade free. Granted the car is garaged and not exposed to extreme temperature variation and UV exposure.

Wrinkles are part of the character of real leather and can not be avoided with use verses leatherette which only seems to smooth out with wear.

Sounds like a plan Joe - just note - the 303 doesn't provide any shine at all - unless you don't buff off the surface after it's had a chance to set in. It leaves a very matte finish - which is what I like about it. The 303 serves to protect both from UV and from dirt/grime, as I've found it much easier to clean my 303'd seats. For shine, can't beat Armor All :D (kidding, kidding.... someone break out the fire house, there's going to be some flames..)

The Blackfire Deep Gloss Spray is a "polymer sealant spray formula" and on the bottle says it can be used over ANY wax or sealant. It goes on to say "recommended for use over carnauba waxes" This goes against what I know about using sealants?? Has anyone used this over waxes? If it does what it says it does I would like to try it over my spray wax to reinforce the sealant already on the car. Not quite sure about this, but maybe it is one of the emerging chemistry changes and uses for spray sealants?

All I can tell you about the product is I have used it over BFWD sealant and it works very nicely in keeping the gloss and slickness.

I agree that using it over a wax is contrary to what I know about sealants topping waxes but the guys from PAC will be the best ones to answer this secific question.

The Blackfire Deep Gloss Spray Sealant is best used as a maintenance product between washes, so yes, you can use it on top of a nubba. It will amp up the shine and slickness of anything you lay it over. It's a great product IMHO.

I use it differently than the label directions.

After washing and a sheet rinse, I spritz the body panels and towel dry. After a few minutes, a haze appears on the paint, which I buff lightly with a MF.

I don't do the above after every wash, just when I want to boost the shine.

I like that approach, using as a wax as you dry. I'll have to try it.

I just noticed on the bottom of my Blackfire deep gloss spray that it was manufactured in 2008!! I can tell it doesn't have as much bite as it first did. The sad part is I have a lot left in the bottle. Am I doing any harm by using it still? should i just toss it?

with PAC closing down...what's the next spray wax to use?
