Qew

I was wondering some general info on this stuff. Mainly what it is, how it works, and how you use it. I think I got a rough idea, also, can this swirl your car up? Finally, where can I get it and/or read more about it? Thanks guys.:xyxthumbs

This subject has had loads of threads dedicated to it. If you do a search for QEW, I'm sure you will get the information you need.

BTW if used correctly, it doesn't introduce swirls & you get it from Camping World in the US.

Happy reading:)

Yeah, I'm not clear on what the product is either. Do you wash the car "dry" with your solution from the bucket without prior rinsing? Do you rinse the QEW off afterwards?

Most people do. It's one of the most counterintuitive products out there. Only personal experience, or living vicariously through others experiences in previous threads, will convince you. You just have to try it and see for yourself. You can wash your car in a warm garage while it's 17 degrees outside, and use only a bucket of water.

I just tried it for the first time yesterday. Very happy. My WRX was CAKED with salt so I took it to a quarter blaster first to get the heavy stuff off. Then I took it back home and grabbed my 2 buckets and went to town. At first I was seeing lots of small scratches, but this is the first time I've really washed the car properly since mid December. The winter has been rough on it. After seeing them though, I was nervous that it was the QEW. On my next section I went 90 degrees to the direction I was seeing the marks and I made no new marks. :) I'm very satisfied and I'll be using this method the rest of the winter followed by a long weekend of spring cleaning.

I did too, back in 1993 when I first tried it. It's been my primary way to wash my own car and my customer's cars ever since.

I also used QEW for the first time today, based of course on comments posted here :). I used Randymtu's method above, blasting it first at the "quarter" car wash. I just couldn't bring myself to swab *anything* directly onto the caked on salt. Anyway, it came out beautifully with no scratching that I could see. And no hose needed!

Scott, you're using it since you don't have access to water when you are working?

What does one do when they have to clean salt-caked wheel wells or wheels?

Can you rinse afterwards or is that simply not needed? I've done some reading on the product trying to understand why it is so popular. It seems to me it's one of those things that you've got to see in person. :nixweiss

I use the coin/op car wash to soap/rinse my Truck also hitting the wheel wells, Tires and undercarriage to remove the worst. $2.00 for 4 minutes and it works well. I was washing my seats with the Woolite / mix while in line for an open stall and figured i would try it on the tires and rims. I had a long handled wheel brush and scrubbed the tire while constantly spraying with the Woolite mix. Loads of grime washed off the tires with little effort.

I sprayed the Tonneau cover with the Woolite Mix as well as gently washed it with a long handled bush I had with me. It clearly loosened the grime that normally is embedded in the grain of the vinyl cover. I followed it with the Carwash soap/rinse and pulled out to the lot with the others drying their cars. I used two five gallon buckets with warm water (from Home) and the QEW.

Truck came out great. I could have skipped the Carwash if the truck was not covered with so much Road Salt.

I even tried some of the NXT Spray Wax on the hood for kicks. It left the surface silky smooth.

More snow tomorrow  .

There is another good reason why scottwax uses it. I remember him saying that if you use QEW prior to polishing/waxing you will have less water re-appear from cracks and crevices because you haven't soaked the car. Therefore less chance of water running down the panel you just covered in polish/wax :)

There is nothing to rise off afterwards. I know it goes against everthing 'right' but it works.

Wash with mitt......dry with towel.....done :D

This past weekend I cleaned my jeep that had caked on salt....severly! As usual, I didn't have any problems cleaning it with JUST qew. I didn't spray or nothing. The only thing I did was spray the jeep down with some Meg's QD, wash sections at a time with qew and MF, dried with WW and MF, polish and wax. But, before the polish and carnuaba wax the jeep looked immaculate....no swirls, no imbedded salt or dirt, etc. Of course, a vehicle has to be at least somewhat taken care of in order to get those kind of results. If you rarely to never clay, wax or polish, run through quickie car washes, etc., you may not get the same results.

Hi guys, Look im not as professional as most of you but a Australian Wholesaler invited me to help with trials of QEW down under.

I shut my eyes fast and used it on a Black Porsche Carrera (996) in front of its owner ! I guess I jumped in at the deep end. I had all these instructions from the supplier and used a MF Mitt and Ultra MF Chamois.

I do know who was more dumfounded me or the owner ! It was terrific. It was 32deg C and I was in direct Sun. I did a panel at a time with a one bucket method but 30mL/ 4 Litres of Water. ( a lot for a Porsche i think)

No sratching or marring. Great Finish, great look. If the chamois got wet and left a water streak it just evaporated in front of our eyes.

I did the wheels with a Mitt i designate just for wheels then used a MF to wipe off.......not the chamois.

It was terrific. BUT watch the windows and the glass sunroof. I used a MF window cloth to clean off some almost invisible streaks you could see on the glass. If I had used the 2 bucket method or had SWs skill i probably wouldnt have got these glass streaks. It was very very minor.

Anyway more importantly the Porshe owner ( a good customer) said " great Job lets get two beers !"

Enough said the OZ tradition continues !!!!!!!!

And that Australian Distributor was so impressed he has now taken on QEW for the whole of Australasia, very handy when rinsing of cars with hosepipes is forbidden in most places, I am told.

Gee youve got all the bloody gossip and you are thousands of miles away vindaloo !!!!!!

How come ?

You are right too AGs been keeping it quiet too i dont think anybody in OZ knows and you do !!!!!..... actually another autopian ( im not sure what he posts as but his name is david ? )and me put AG on to it !

Dan !
