QD When Drying...Why Didn't I Do This Sooner?

That's what I thought as I always do a rinseless wash with ONR...But QD'ing while drying does seem to make a noticeable difference to me IMHO.
 
I find pre-moistening to be a good idea with some WWs, but not necessary with others (e.g. PakShack Ultra-softs). I usually just do the windows if I want to dampen them.



And yeah, I get most of the water off with the AirWand and then spritz-and-wipe.

Seriously, I washed a white Chevy 2500, and thought, WTH. I opened the cap, and just "plopped" a drop here and there on the panel, and dried in my usual fashion. I was quite impressed, as said, it felt like I waxed the entire truck..

HUH :confused: :think: I've had some pretty nasty issues when water seeped out of a crevice and mixed with my not-dried UPP...the sort of thing that was simply :hairpull



This time I'm gonna have to say :nixweiss "Glad it worked for you, guess YMMV applies here" as I wouldn't risk anything like that happening from a deliberate action on my part. This one really has me wondering!
 
I always liked using Optimum Car Wax after an ONR wash while drying the car. I have a couple of WW's dedicated to this only because they never seem to dry quite as well after using them like this and I have tried several different ways of washing them.
 
Interesting, in two years of detailing I have never thought to do this. I usually dry with a waffle weave MF, wonder what effect the spray detailer will have the towel. I would assume it would be less absorbant to the QD than a regular MF.

I haven't found any altering effects of the WWMF absorbancy using a QD when drying...as mentioned you don't need much QD when used to dry an already moist surface.

If you wash your towels in hot water with a proper detergent, the towels will stay absorbent. The hot water helps break down the product used with the towel more so than warm or cold water. Some people here will boil their towels in a pot after a while when they no longer become absorbent.



I wash all my towels regardless of use in hot water and they are fine. I've been doing this for years.

Because some of us have..uhm..mystery issues :think: Probably related to our water :nixweiss



I had to add "berm filters" (for manganese and iron, they look like softeners without the brine tanks) and get new softeners just to obtain remotely decent results laundering my detailing (and bath) textiles. The "MF detergents" and a vinegar rinse helped a lot, but not as much as spending a few grand with my plumbing contractor :o



And yesterday my softest WWMFs didn't feel quite so soft *again* :hairpull They're currently doing their umpteenth cyclo on "sanitize" (ultra-hot water) with no detergent. Oddly enough, they were still soaking up water just fine this time, just weren't feeling as soft as they oughta.



But then I'm also the guy whose WWs for glass *always* end up linting...I just have towel issues :sadpace:
 
Well, I just tried this technique today with my Teggy and I liked the results. For my quick detailer I used Meg's Ultimate Quik Detailer. It felt kind of weird... not only because this was a new method to me but the polymers in the UQD reacting to the left over water on the car being wiped off together.
