New Normal
Had a little time today to use a product that I used earlier in the spring on a Subaru Forrester. I was going to write a review on PwS using that vehicle but somehow I got way laid and never got to it. Had some time this very morning to work on the Black truck. It had been several weeks may be even a month since I had done anything to it other than the daily S&W wipe down and the use of a CCD.
In the environment that the truck sits in daily the wipe downs and CCD have taken a toll on the paint surface. I had holograms on the tonneau cover and scratches all over the vehicle. Admittedly these could only be seen in direct sunlight by a discerning eye. Most non detailers would consider the vehicle in terrific shape. Just not up to my standards.
I started out with another S&W wipe down using the new Detail City/Poorboy’s towels to get the surface clean. Did not use a clay bar(although it needed it) because I was interested to see how the product would work by setting a time limit of three minutes per panel of my truck. I used a PC, LC white 6 in. polishing pad, and Poorboy’s PwS beta version that Steve was nice enough to send to me since I whined a lot.
I split the truck into 18 different panels. Got an wind up egg timer and started the detail. I have never been one to rush a detail but have found from previous experience that I tend to take to much time. In the end it lowers my hourly rate of pay. Get stellar results but am interested I streamlining my process so as to keep what I consider a good hourly wage for the detail. I have a long weekend coming up and am in hopes of doing several details using this method during my time off.
With 18 panels already set up in my mind I knew that I would have 54 minutes of polishing ahead of me. I put a large amount of product on the pad to help prime it. Starting on the hood. I set the timer and went to work. It was a pleasant 66 degree’s outside with overcast skies in a gravel parking lot outside my hotel room. As I continued around the truck I put less and less product on the pad. At the end of nine panels I changed pads and started on the other half of the hood working my way towards the tailgate. It took 66 minutes to do the entire vehicle using the PC spreading the product on speed three and then turning up the PC to finish off each panel on speed six. I did not do the roof. I forgot the ladder at a friends house
I have to say that the PwS beta version that I have worked with little dusting. It was starting to dust after the ninth panel on each pad that I used. Product spread very easy with the PC and the result were very satisfying to me. It removed all the scratches that I had been noticing. Minor scratches to most non DC members but were really bothering me.
I am hoping to see at least a month of protection from this product. I am not sure how long it will last? It is going to be hard to not put anything else on it in the next month. Hopefully I will have more details coming up in the next few weeks. All with pictures. Inside a garage with lights. Since it was overcast today I only have *after* pictures and they are with rain drops because as soon as I finished it started to sprinkle. Most likely this will effect the durability as well. Without direct sunlight it would be hard to show the scratches and marring that I had seen earlier in the week. If the sun comes out later on today I will try to post pictures showing how marr free the surface actually is.... or isn't.... which ever is the case.
Just my thoughts on a product that I think has merit.
